Caster Blocks Bushes

Have been giving my front suspension the once over whilst installing KONI front strut inserts. On the inboard side of the swing arms I have put Powerflex bushes to the front bush and new Porsche bushes at the rear caster mount end.

Here is a picture of the new and old bushes, you will notice the change of design. My car was first registered in Aug '92 so is an early example.

old bush part no = 951 341 023 00
new bush part no = 951 341 023 01

The old one was showing some signs of separation between metal and rubber. The new one is a much better arrangement and as it has less rubber should be much stiffer.

It is a really easy job to check/replace these but if you have the older type like mine on your car the change to the newer version might throw the caster adjustment out. This is because the position of the central hole is not exactly the same, even when allowing for compression of the old type when installed.

Anyone else able to add any observations to this?

following on from Paul's posting, if you do want to order Powerflex polyurethane bushes for the castor mount they are only suitable for the later type, we've now made Powerflex aware of this. [:)]

Cheers,
Stuart.
