Castle Coombe Noise level

Msg for Kevin Cooke (C4S) - Kevin I now have a 2000 C4 with a sports exhaust, I also went to Goodwood last week and got my exhaust tested, surprise, surprise at 5200 rpm it was also 107 db, but I don' t have a switch, but the man at Goodwood said it would be okay to run at Goodwood because they take some Db off because the engine is at the rear. I have also booked into a Castle Coombe Noise Day on 3/7, did you say they only asked for 4200 RPM. I am worried I might not get on the track ??

PS Hope you are enjoying the C4S, don' t you miss your Boxster S a little ??

Charlie

Charlie,

I miss the Boxster S a lot, W888 BOX was up to now the best car I have ever owned. Is C4S XL better ? Ask me again in a year after a good few thousand miles and half a dozen track days.

I' m currentlyt booked for the 19th April which is a 100db day, thats why I was trying to find out at what revs they did the test, I might just sneak in.

Regards

I did hear that castle Coombe are quite strict ans last year somebody only got on the track after Steve Kelvin' s intervention. I think you might be pushing it on a 100db day ?

Ps I have the same reservations about my old Boxster S

July3 is a ' noisy day' with the limit at 105dB measured .5m / 45 degrees from the exhaust at 75% max rpm.

Mel,

You sound as if you know what you are talking about. I wanted to know wether or not the marshalls at castle coombe are " strict" about the 105db limit.

Flattery will get you everywhere Charlie!!

I took the car up there last year to get a silencer fitted instead of the tailpipe. It took the normal 105dB down to 102-103dB -they wouldn' t have let me out on a 100dB day with that. So, I must assume if u r over 105dB the answer to your question is ' yes' . Each 3dB is DOUBLING of the noise.

They seem a lot more flexible at Goodwood. It' s grossly unfair that us rear engined drivers suffer from the noise of the engine AS WELL as the exhuast.

BTW, pop the clutch down when testing, gets rid of some of the gearbox thrash.
