Cat bypass and Cup pipe - now a remap?

Gimme Shelter

Just fitting a cat bypass pipe and cup pipe to my 1991 C2. I presume it'll need a remap - anyone got any experience/recommendations?

I approached DMS but they've said they don't do 964s - I was surprised.

All help appreciated.

Do you know for sure it hasn't already had a remap? Exhaust changes don't mean you need a remap but if you decide you want one then Wayne Schofield at Chipwizzards is the man.

No re-map required.

You are likely to experience SPL exceding 105db so you make not make it onto the track at Oulton Park for example.

I have cat bypass and g-pipe and failed Bedford's static test, even with a DecibelDevil fitted. I now swap the g-pipe for a secondary silencer for track days, which takes all of 10 minutes.

I was told that a G-pipe doesn't give any power advantage, only more noise. More noise is nice, don't get me wrong, but for the hassle, why not just keep it standard?

Colin, for 10 mins effort the noise is worth it

In terms of advantage, the secondary silencer weights a ton, so perhaps I can persuade myself there is still a performance gain to be had ;)

fwiw James, I was quite keen on G-pipe on the basis that it would save weight, allow better breathing (and therefore more power) and sound great.

Once my indy explained that I wouldn't get any more power out of it, I changed my mind.

FWIW, I have yet to see any empirical evidence about power increases due to any combination of decay, g-pipe or cup pipe. It would't be hard to do a proper test on a rolling road with one car running all the different options but I haven't seen the results of such a thing. It would be fairly easy to throw remaps in to the mix too.

Of course if its been done and the results are in the public domain I'd love to see them.

I got it re-mapped yesterday, by BBR-GTI in Brackley.

The car is a well-looked-after 98,000 mile 1991 C2 Targa with a Design Tek cat bypass and Cup pipe.

I'm pleased with the results. In summary, "before" was a peak of 249.8 bhp; "after" is 266.8 bhp. There are gains everywhere, particularly in mid-range torque, and everything feels smooth and linear. Neil, who runs BBR-GTI, tells me I will also get improved fuel consumption.
