Cat-tastic...?

Hi all,

Just putting my new ss exhaust system together, mainifold and boxes (Dansk - yay!) sorted, but still puzzling over Cats.

During my quest I came across this outfit, quite the cheapest by far, and (allegedly) fabricated in the UK:

http://www.cats2u.co.uk/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=PORSCHE+911+3.4+%28996%29&osCsid=9aad5966eb0b95c4058d599ce38f3d47&x=21&y=12

Anyone heard of them or had experience - I'm not necessarily looking for sports flow cats, just want to know if anyone knows these are up to snuff compared to standard?

Any guidance appreciated?

J

...aha, I have found out a bit more info - they are standard 400 cell cats, so back pressure will presumably be the same as original spec.... 2 year guarantee as well.

BUT for another £250 ish I can get 200 cell high flow cats from DesignTech, and they have already have a good reputation (I'm told).

So I suppose the question is now, would y'all recommend the high flow cats generally? And would it likely make much difference if I'm only matching them up to the standard Dansk muffler?

Any guidance?

Thanks.

I definitely recommend changing those for the better flow. Mine apparently has a tubi exhaust with twin pipes and stainless cats. Bearable burble around town howls like a banshee when you wind it up. To my untrained ear it sounds like I imagine a 930 would sound, and not that muffled fluffy sound of the std exhaust. At Bedford last year it was smack on 101 decibels on the static. Look at it like this, if a good breathing exhaust only gives you another five percent, which is not an outrageous claim, 5% of 420 is 21 so you would be right up there in turbo S land. Mine is certainly quicker than the latest BMW M3. It was only my unfamiliarity with the handling limits that the M3 caught me up. I was braking from 152 at the end of the long straight before the kink at Bedford. Bear in mind it's the slightly heavier Cab. On the motor way at legal speeds it seems to have more torque than another member's std exhaust shod mount. I could just pull away from it at my leisure. How this would relate to a normally aspirated 996 I have absolutely no idea.

Thanks for that - its not the banshee wail I'm after so much, although a bit more guts would be good - hence the Dansk mufflers - but the difference you experienced looks worthwhile - not sure if the back pressure on the standard Dansk mufflers would negate the Cat difference though?

The quest continues!

Thanks.
