CAT ?

I'm assuming the CS has a CAT fitted, is it 1) possible and 2)legal to decat it given the age of the vehicle ?

I seem to remember that CATs had only just started to appear in the early 90's. When were they made mandatory in the UK and does it make any difference mine being an import ?

Cheers

All 968s are equipped with factory catalytic converters.

From a quick Google search, it appears anything registered after 1st August 1992 needs a cat to pass emissions.

As far as I know, you're not legally required to have a CAT, but you are required to pass an emmissions test, and that's very difficult without one.

I know companies like Miltek make Sports CAT's which are supposed to be free(er) flowing but effective enough to get you through the test.

Sounds like it could be a bit of trial and error then. But its an avenue I want to explore, I'm going on a RR day in March at G-force to give me a starting point for a bench mark, I've been told a lot of factory spec 968 struggle to make the quoted 240BHP.

Moving on a little, will the 968's ECU adjust to a modification like this, i.e. is it adaptive or would it need re-mapping ?

Some rolling road data would be very interesting for us on this board, though I would not be surprised to find that lots of cars fail to make 240 bhp.

Based on all the posts on 968.net and the fact that the engine has had such a lot of development I would be very surpised to find anyone who actually has more than 250bhp from a standard/normally aspirated 968 engine.

Can anyone add some hard data to this question?

K-Plate onwards need to pass the stricter emissions test designed for cats - as someone said you don't have to have the cat, just pass the test.

I'm wondering with some decent mapping if it'd scrape through without. I dont fancy changing the exhaust over every 12 months, too much like hard work.

Paul, thanks for the links I've actually posted on that thread after spending about a week reading it excellent stuff but I'm wondering if Colin is going to make the magic 300 with just the revised intake. I'm going to try and take a spin up to 9M next weekend its only about 35-40 minutes from me so if they are any good I may use them for my servicing.

Cheers
