I have just had my car up on the ramp at the local exhaust centre to investigate a leak after Saturdays fun at Donnington, the Cat has split at the rear [:(] Adrian at Exeter OPC has just quoted me over £700 for a replacement [] so I think I will have to bin the Cat & get a straight through pipe made [;)]
I know I have seen references to places that will make a Cat Delete Pipe to order but my searches have not revealed the thread/s.
Diver I think you posted details of somewhere in Birmingham that had done these for about £100 ?

You're right I did [:)] (but I'm blowed if I can remember their name [&:] getting old now). I'll keep racking my brains but in the meantime give Jon Mitchell a call, I know he has a good solution for Turbo cat deletes so maybe he can help for an S2. The only other alternative is the Essential Styling front pipe, but it is a bit pricey.

I have the car booked in on Saturday for a Cat Delete pipe in Stainless @ £65 all up fitted, they say it should only take 30 mins to do.

Thats not bad. I remember I emailed them with a query and the quote came back for stupid £££££ I presumed they were adding a Porsche premium and nevr got back to them [8|]

Let us know how you get on. Our S2 has a distinct black blemish round one of the welds on the cat and I'm sure its starting to blow (though it passed its MOT 6 weeks ago)

I have also been offered an exhaust system from an S2 that had the cat deleted as a factory option, I'm going to look at it tomorrow.

Hi Graeme do you have a phone number for the place you are getting the cat delete pipe that sounds like a good price thanks paul.

Chris,
What's the difference between the Turbo & S2 systems, as you have both cars for a side by side comparrison?

I am quietly pleased I have the oportunity to ditch the Cat. as the delete pipe should provide a performance increase, & you don't get many mods that are proven to work on S2's for £65

The S2 has a three bolt coupling between the front and rear box. The Turbo has a 4 bolt coupling. Apart from that they look visually identical to me, so I dunno if chopping the coupling flange from one to the other is possible.

Vaguely OT, but what's the MOT ruling on removing Cat's? I presume they are fitted to cars that don't legally have to have them, hence they can be removed. What is the cut-off date after which you have to leave it on?

Phil

Had the Cat. removed this afternoon.
Was a simple but efficient job:
  • Air hacksaw through pipe infront of & behind the Cat.
  • Throw Cat in scrap bin
  • Cut SS pipe to length
  • Swage ends of new pipe
  • Weld in place
  • Robert is your father's brother.
First impressions are improved exhaust note under acceleration & still comfortable at cruising speeds.
Was another pony liberated? The car certainty feels a little quicker, seems to start to pull a little lower in the rev range. The "Rollers of Truth" will reveal the reality later this month.

My S2 cab was noticeably slower and less aurally pleasing when we discovered a crack in the front of the cat and welded it up.
