Cayenn transfer box centre diff issue

I wonder if anyone has any experience of an annoying issue I am having with my 2003 Cayenne S
At slow speeds (about walking pace) I get some annoying clunks and thuds from the transmission.
I've done some research on Rennlist and the american boys give reference to a TSB which relates to changing the transfer box control unit (brain) as it was locking the centre diff too often/eagerly and the clunks/thuds are the result of the diff unlocking when slowing to a stop or setting off again. However I can find no reference to a similar type of UK issued TSB, there are also notes on an upgraded transfer box control motor.
It certainly feels like the centre diff is my issue. The car has 98k on the clock and has done this in the last 5k we have had it, I think it may be getting worse but this may also be the dripping tap syndrome creeping in.

Any help or experiences appreciated.

I have a clonking on my V8 it has been there for some time but
we cannot get it to clonk when taken to OPC.
I believe it is caused by the 2 separate shafts moving at slightly different
speeds that makes the noise.Whatever the reason we could not find any
signs of wear so i have lived with it.It is more noisy with a slight bit of lock
and on a gentle slope up into the garage

Mine annoys the hell out of me! sometimes I get a series of 3 or 4 thuds when setting off - it's almost constant in traffic.
Reading more into it tonight it looks like the transfer box actuator is the issue, 0AD341601A are the early (problem) ones and 0AD341604C are the upgraded ones. I've yet to check what mine is but I'll keep an eye out on eBay for a "C" one.
However if anyone can add to this please feel free.

I have a 2011 Cayenne Turbo. I started having the same sensation of 'clunks & thuds' from the transmission. It was diagnosed as the 'transfer box' and replaced under warranty.

In addition to my original V8 I have the latest V6 3.6 Petrol
Done 4000 miles without a rumble I hope it stays that way.....
I have not looked up the figures but i think the performace of the V6 almost equals the V8'?
There is no doubt things have moved on and the new car feels so much more comfortable
than the 8 .Just did a fab trip down to St Trop and it was a real pleasure to drive ..
