Cayenne 957 Middle East Import

Dear Members: I am currently in Qatar, Middle East and I wish to bring my Cayenne home with me.
I know that I need to get the VOSA inspection and MOT to make it road legal in the UK.

Where can I find out, if the Cayenne built for the Middle Eastern market can be easily converted to meet VOSA requirements, or is the specification so far removed that it will be cost prohibitive?

I have the build codes for my vehicle that states: 0GU Emissions compliance EU 2. What is EU2?

I would appreciate any help.

Regards

Ian.

Would this car have a certificate of conformity .?
When i brought a car in from Europe The 2 main Docs needed were that cert plus
original reg cert ( log book).
I can put you in touch with a Malaysian/Singapore UK importer if you think that
would help ?

Thanks tiskev,

Yeah, I know about the Cert of Conformity, but that's where it all falls down for me. Apparently, they won't issue a CoC for a vehicle that is outside the EU. No one can tell me if there's an equivalent for non EU cars. I can't be the first to take a car back to the UK from the Middle East.

I'd appreciate the contact details for the importer..... he may be able to help since he's not based in Europe.

Regards

Ian.

Might be well worth contacting Porsche U K. Someone here can give you the
Email. I think it must be fairly simple as there are many cars coming here now from USA
and other countries further afield ? It might be worth having a look on the DVLA web site as well ?
You can also contact the customs handling the imports .I think they are based in Dover .
Try google For the number

Hi Again Tiskev,

Yeah, all valid points, thank you. Porsche UK have been unable to assist me, but i will try to speak to the DVLA or VOSA tomorrow.

I have a tale that may explain my goal: A couple of years ago, there was a guy out here that shipped his Jeep back to the UK. When it arrived at the port he discovered that the specifications were so far removed from UK legislation that it was better to cut his losses and scrap it than have it converted for use on the UK roads.

This is what i'm trying to clarify......

I could obviously sell it here and purchase another when i'm back in the UK, but the interior spec is such that i'd never find it in the UK.

Sounds like you need to contact HMRC ( Personal Imports ) AT DOVER
your should be able to find the contact details on their website or google it .
Meantime why not contact Porsche Germany and ask them if Saudi Spec
would conform to EU/UK rules ?

I was working in Qatar for the last 8 years and returned back to the U.K. last August and have shipped my cayenne back to U.K.
I be happy to let you know the proses.
What year is the car manufactured ?

Hi Peter,
Yes, i'd be very interested in finding out the process. The car is a 2009 manufacture.

Ian

Ian,
After you have H.M.C. (Customs ) clearance the you apply for Individual vehicle approval takes around 4 weeks (cost 199 pounds ) for car to be tested it is just the same test as an MOT but at government test site where HGVs are tested, once the car has passed the car needs to have normal MOT, then apply to DLVA for the car to be registered and taxed ( 3 weeks ) cost 50 pounds plus the road tax.
My car is the same spec as yours only mods that had to be made was headlights beam to be adjusted.
Car was shipped in a 20ft container from Qatar to Felixstowe which took 35 days.
Regards,
Peter

Hi,
Not needed for government tests, as long as the car is the same spec now as when it left the Porsche factory when new.
All that's needed is proof you have owned the car for minimum of one year In Qatar ( invoice of buying, Insurance certificate and rent statement for one year that is for customs purposes so you pay no import tax )
Also you cant sell the car for one year from date cleared by customs.
Regards,
Peter
