Cayenne 958 tow bar/impact beam

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post as a new member Porsche Club UK. I recently purchased a 2013 Cayenne S Diesel that had a tow bar fitted by the previous owner. Unfortunately the tow bar was removed prior to delivery and I have since discovered that upon removal the tow bar should have been replaced with an factory fitted impact beam to provide ongoing protection to the chassis. This did not happen, so I'm now faced with purchasing a tow bar or an impact beam. Given that the impact beam is factory fitted and needs to be removed from every Cayenne with a tow bar fitted I thought finding one would be reasonably easy, however that has not been the case. I've checked some of the national car breaker sites without success, so thought I'd see if anyone here may be able to point me in the right direction as I don't fancy buying a new one. Thoughts?

That is really annoying.

I am assuming you bought it private? as a dealer would be responsible for selling in a fit for purpose manner.

I would go back to the individual you bought it from.
Removing the towbar and not putting the crash beam back on is down-right negligent.
But irrespective, if he took it off to fit to another Cayenne, he will have another crash beam going spare shortly.

I always keep the beam when fitting towbars to my Mercs, and always replace before sale.

I bought the car through a dealer and I am still in discussions with them as to why the tow bar was removed, as photos advertising the vehicle showed the swan neck attached. I initially though they had removed the swan neck and it wasn't until washing the car a week a later that I realised they had completely removed the tow bar. Assuming I don't get any joy with the dealer I'll either have to buy an impact beam or a tow bar, so I guess it might as well be a tow bar. Not the end of the world, but a bit of pain.
