I am still on route back from a factory collection of a GTS and just wanted to say how pleased I am with the car and the way that Porsche arranged the day.
We were taken to the Leipzig factory and the day began.
We initially took a GTS around the off road test track and what an experience that was. The car climbed seemingly impossible hills and drove along sideways inclines that made you think the car would roll but the instructor said there was a 7 degree safety margin! How it never grounded out on some terrain was amazing and it negotiated thick mud, deep water and easily climbed over the top of the old Soviet bunkers.
Next on the agenda was the Road Track. The instructor initially did several laps and to be in a Cayenne with the PSM ( Please Save Me) switched off was quite an experience with squealling tyres and loads of smoke. He then switched the PSM back on and we entered a corner far too fast and on the Apex he performed an emergency stop! needless to say the PSM sorted it all out. Next we went along a straight at about 80 mph and with both feet off of the pedals he violently swung the steering wheel hard left then right. The PSM kicked in and automatically Braked each wheel as required and the way it sorted out the instability of the car was amazing.
Next it was my turn and with the PSM On it was quite exhillarating to chuck a lumpy 4x4 around a track.
After this we had lunch, which considering it was at a car factory, and the quality and presentation would put many top class restaurants to shame.
The next part of the day was the factory tour which was enlightening as the bodyshells and a fair part of the interior trim are completed before they arrive at leipzig. It is more of a final assembly process than a manufacturing process.
The visitor centre is very impressive and includes a museum, shop, and being a circular building it offers a great view of the whole site.
Finally we got to collect the car and had an excellent handover and left the complex feeling that the Factory collection was money well spent.
So far the GTS has performed faultlessly and we are in Reims and I have no regrets about buying a replacement Cayenne.
I will post some pictures when we get back. Our GTS is Red with sand beige interior and it was interesting to note that many other GTS's were in Red, mainly with sand beige, but also black interiors. However, the majority of the Cayenne production line was Black, with a few silver, white and the occasional blue. There was one yukky green too.
