Hi

Just had a 24 hr test drive. Very impressive car. At idle it doesn't sound like a diesel - no clutter - on the move bags of torque and beautiful gearbox.

Fit and finish superb

Only downside is the 6 month waiting list

Looks great in white with 21 inch wheels (£3500 extra). Can't decide what colour - think grey or black would be better 2-3 years down the line when white has gone out of fashion.

Just thought I would share my thoughts

I've done nearly 1,000 miles in the new Diesel, under all conditions. When I get the chance I'll report my impressions.

I'm delighted with my Dark Blue Metallic with Platinum Grey leather. The Grey leather creates a very spacious feel to the cabin. Personally ... I think black is just too common for 4x4s & shows no individuality. The black grey leather also makes the cabin feel cramped.

Good to hear all this -regret Mrs Melv and me positively underwhelmed by the car during a test drive yesterday.......shame, I wanted one!![&:]

Mine is nearly 6 months old with 11500 miles at 30-31 mpg. Fantastic allround vehicle which beats most away from the lights even with the engine stop start engaged. Compared with a Q7 it's more nimble, economical, sporty, tyre wear is not a problem and it looks reasonable. Not bad offroad either- see front cover of October PP. As a compromise I went with 20" sport design 11 wheels with all season M+S tyres, which are ok for light offroading, upkerbs and the like. Would be anxious about 21" turbo wheels getting damaged. I think the 6 month waiting list is a good indication of the instant success of the new model, particularly with the diesel engine. I will soon have to put my order in and join the queue for its replacement at this rate! Finally it's brilliant in this weather, really inspires confidence.
ORIGINAL: pikeynet I've had one of these for 5 months and 5,000 miles now...absolutely fantastic! Strangely I was also a bit underwhelmed on the test drive, but once I lived it with for a bit I got to know it and am much more impressed. I think it's to do with the size; coming from a 997 takes a lot of getting used to. Now I am, I know how much the 'sport' button makes it go! Extremely impressed for a 2-ton tank that gives me around 700 miles a tank!

Had one for a test drive today and really impressed by the engine and autobox. After the V8 I expected a lack of oomph, particularly higher up the rev range but how wrong was I! Real grunt, if a slightly gritty note to the engine which is unsurprising as it's a diesel, and commendably quiet when cruising along. The gearchanges are almost seamless and pdk like, and in sport mode it felt really sharp for a big beast. Handling felt very similar to my car, and traction as good as you'd expect on my muddy local roads. Not so keen on the interior on first impressions, though I guess I'd get used to it, and the mirrors, interior and exterior are a triumph of style over substance. The fold down rear seat arrangement and more sloping tailgate make for a less practical load space than before, an important point to some of us. Overall a fine vehicle and unsurprising it has such a long wait list - very soon this particular opc will be quoting 2012 delivery!

I had a test drive plus from Aberdeen OPC last week. Came away very impressed with the diesel. It gathered speed faster than anticipated and could shed the speed too if need be. The one I was in had the air suspension and 20" wheels, which I'm staying away from. I'm getting another test drive from Aberdeen when I have the time available, just to get it on roads I'm more aquaint with[;)] Just to see how the ride is off course... Overall it gripped well and drove like a car on the narrow back roads around Edzell. Looks like I've done the right thing.

Mine arrives in May/June. It replaces a 4.7ltr Jeep G/Cherokee so anythings going to be better than that and def more economical. Last summer on a rushed return Journey from Cadwell Park to Esher the Jeep managed under 11 mpg, I was hustling though. BTW keeping the GT3 Regards Kevin Cooke

Mine still hasn't arrived but should get it by the end of the month (July), finally went for Grey, black leather and the RS Spyder wheels. Looking forward to a bit of comfort for Eupopean jaunts, which should include a trip to Nurburgring mid August for the old timer GP, subject to confirmation of a race entry for my Lola, there is also a slim possibility of racing at Imola in October so that would be a nice run. Regards to all Kevin.
