Cayenne Extended Warranty - worthwhile?

Yes, yes, my pride & joy is a 996, but my (business) partner runs a Cayenne S which is one year, 11 months and two weeks old. Tick, tick ...

Now, for my 996 the extended warranty seems to be a pretty easy decision. But we're not so sure about his Cayenne. On the one hand, he treats it a lot more gently than I treat my 996, but on the other hand it has spent a reasonable amount of time in Reading having things done to it. At the moment, it is there for a week having the aircon ripped out and replaced in toto. As an aircon compressor is about £1,000, he and I are glad that the warranty is in place for that one.

Has anyone else had to weigh up the pros and cons? What were your feelings on the subject?

I would guess from chatting to guys at the dealership that the cayenne is the least reliable car in the Porsche range. They reckon that Porsche has spent around £20,000 trying to fix my cayenne in the first 18months of ownership... it seems like a no brainer to me..

Lazzas warrenty will be running out in the next 5 months and although we don't seem to have suffered the same problems as some other owners we will be taking out an extended warrenty the Cayenne seems to be a very expensive beast to repair [&o]

Think that's the right decision, ours spent 2 weeks in the dealership while they identified a fault - took 2 or three tries - problem was gear selection module. There's an awful lot of electronics to go wrong and most of the OPC's seem to rely heavily on the OBD to identify faults they've not seen before (understandable, but should improve over time).
Our time's up in 2 months & I think it's got be the extended warranty - or buy something with 3 yr warranty next time[;)]
