Cayenne Handbrake won't release

Hi All,

I am fairly new to this.. In a nutshell; - have a three year old Cayenne S Tiptronic.
Collected it two weeks ago - fitted bigger alloys - got it LPGd and picked it up last weekend (I am only mentioning this in case you need to know).

Yesterday I noticed a squeaking at slow speed, and knocking sound when you pull away.
The brakes are hot, and it seems the rear handbrake is not releasing fully.
Kwik Fit took a two second look and said it was a dealership job! the release is electronic.
Any ideas?

In the meantime, I have it booked in with Porsche on Tuesday.. - but does anyone know how I can manually release the handbrake?

Many many thanks for any assistance you can offer!

Neil

that is one reason you don't go near kwik fit....

the handbrake is not electronic and is cable driven, one thing that may be happening is that the brake shoes have come adrift in the rear drum's..

other thing is it's not been reconnected properly under dashboard if someone has had it out to fit anything for lpg..

have only ever seen it once on a cayenne where a handbrake shoe has let go an ended up destroying the disc too....

don't drive it if its stuck on

Thanks.
I can't see anything wrong (which doesn't mean much).
Somethings defintely happened.

There couldn't be any effect from bigger alloys could there?

I think I have just released the handbrake for too shorter time, and driven for a few miles, thus f*&^*g it up somehow..

the wheels in theory shouldnt affect it unless you have used some longer wheel bolts and they are catching on something, has this just happend or has it done it for a while..

as usually you put the handbrake on with the foot pedal and release it with the handle and you usually get a bit of a clunk when it does it... is there any resistance when you pull the handle to release it.?

sometimes on my ceyanne the hand brake does stick,I usually put my foor Under the foot pedal and pull it up,The problem I get is that it does not release fully.Hope this helps

not unusual for a cayenne.. may require a new strut on pedal which unfortunatly porsche don't sell seperatly of the housing...

Hi all

I have exactly the same issue.

The (!) light stays on when I release the footbrake. But pull the pedal an extra 2mm towards you and it switches off.

How much is a new strut and housing for the pedal roughly as I'd like to get this resolved!

Thank you!

Before you buy a new strut check the switch itself, mine had move a little and just needed to be repositioned a very easy job to do and cured my handbrake still on problem.

Hi Lion Heart

No it's real easy to do, put your seat right back lay in the foot well you may need a small torch to see the switch it's about half way up the pedal arm, slacken the bolt I think it's 10mm and move the switch, best to do it with the hand brake off.

I see cardiff is your local dealer where about are you as cardiff is my local dealer too?

Hi Chris!

Many thanks for that - I'll be trying that this evening! It's literally 1-2mm out so hopefully I can just adjust the switch placement. Will save a big headache and unnecesary cost as well!

I'm actually in Hereford. Cardiff is nearest, but hardly 'local' (1.5 hours) []

Hello

Just out of interest porsche have sold the damper/spring for the cayenne handbrake pedal for at least the last 6 months as we have fitted a few now... part number is 955.423.389.00 retail £23.47 plus vat.
