Cayenne S Hybrid on order - Does anyone have any first hand experience to share

Good morning all,
I currently have a new order pending for a new Cayenne S Hybrid due March 2020 [8|]...
I decided this route after many bad experiences with Range Rover (Hybrid) and Tesla P100DL but still wanted a hybrid / EV option. Sold the P100 just before Tesla decided to drop the list price in March > £30K!!
I was looking at the RR ATB P400E as the replacement but stopped again...heart over mind...still too many problems reported...I also didn't like the idea of the 4-pot 2.0 litre petrol in the RR and Volvo, so after a little bit of research and a test drive a couple of months ago (Porsche Solihull seemed to have only current demonstrator) I decided the new Cayenne Hybrid was the one to go with...3.0 engine and larger KW electric plant than all the others. BUT, the dealer then told me I can only reserve a build slot but they can only estimate when it will be built...all the cars being re-aligned with this ol' emissions/ economy figures...
So what to do in the interim period....I'm now the lucky owner of my Agate Grey Targa 4S that of course was my "ONLY" sensible choice for the interim pending the Cayenne progressing...
BUT, I'd love to know peoples opinions on the new hybrid and anything I should be aware of...(i believe its the same set-up as the Panamera Hybrid)..or should avoid it all together?

I went along to the dealership fully intending to put down a deposit on a Hybrid Jan last. Interestingly the sales advised against it. The tech although advanced would date and also the lead times were unknown Of course he wanted a more 'instantaneous' sale but i did save 10,000 and a base model arrives today with my preferred spec which i intend to keep having sold a 4y old Macan in Jan.

I own the previous Cayenne S E-hybrid (2nd Gen) which replaced a Tesla P85D. Prior to the P85D I had a P85+. My + was an ex Marketing car and was great, cool tech and great build quality, the P85D was on of the first D'd into the UK and was a bag of spanners build quality wise and I returned it after 2 months of ownership. Came back to Porsche and bought the Dealer Principles car from Silverstone. This was loaded with options and was 5 months old and had already had 25K miles on it. I bought it back in Jan 2016. Currently has 41K miles on it.

The hybrid system display offers up 11 to 13 miles of range depending on Season (11 in winter / 13 in Summer). I know my house supply is at the low end of spec for voltage as when I was working and charged at the office, I would always see upto 2 mile miles more of range on the display (ie 13 to 15). However with intelligent driving, regen breaking and the free wheel those figures can go up 20 to 30 % and I can expect a A road like journey to offer up 16 to 20 miles of Zero Emission travel

Most of my weekly mileage is around our village and is all electric. The weekend groceries runs etc will be a combination of ICE and hybrid and for instance looking at the App I can see the 73.1 mile round trip to Bisley yesterday shows fuel consumption was 34.9 mpg average speed 45 mph, Zero emission for that trip was 21.3 miles (journey would have been down to Basingstoke on A roads, M3 to Bagshot at 70mph and then A roads down to Bisley - return via same route)

I always said if Porsche released a Cayenne hybrid with " * 2 current range" I would order one immediately, however to date all the OPCs will not release manufacturing slots for the Cayenne Hybrid (and will not say if it will be fitted with a towbar), so tbh every time I have asked (last time I asked was about 2 months ago) the hybrid is simply "not orderable" which is damm annoying, hence me staying with this one. Woodstocks post up above is an indication of this, they simply cant give a delivery date so will try and get you into something else. As to tech out-dating, it all does, that is part of technology and car life, look at highly specc'd Gen 1 V6 Cayenne spec/performance versus today's lowest spec Cayenne .. its like a dinosaur in comparison

The Gen 2 drives great, the change between ICE and electric is smooth and regen breaking works well. Mine sucks in snow and is not the best on muddy / wet fields :) I would say it is a combination of 21inch Summer Yokohammas and the fact the hybrid does not have the low ratio capability of the 4WD. Hybrid cannot be ordered with diff locks either

I would swap to a gen 3 in a heartbeat as they say the hybrid system is better, the dash looks great and I love the shape.. if only I could get a date from an OPC

If you can get a delivery date and you enjoy your test drive, I'd say do it

No Probs .. I hopped on to the UK configurator and see it is still "price less" with the same message we have had for over a year "Due to an upcoming revision of specification, this model is not currently available for configuration as a new factory order. Please continue to use the Car Configurator to explore the model. For more information regarding availability please contact your preferred Porsche Centre." ...... sigh

Last time I badgered an OPC for why a firm order with delivery slot be placed for a Cayenne Hybrid I was told it was "issues to do with how the car is tested under new WLTP test methodology" I am guessing that as the WLTP MPG figure is part of the "type approval", Porsche don't want a "bad" test

And checking https://www.porsche.com/uk/models/cayenne/cayenne-models/cayenne-e-hybrid/ the MPG : CO2 and Electric Range are all showing TBD
 
We have had a Cayenne Hybrid and a Panamera hybrid from new. Both have the same Audi Direct injection petrol engines.

After about 37,000 miles, the Cayenne began suffering from 'Blocked Secondary Airways' caused by Soot build up. The 'Soot' has been cleaned out several times but at 46,000 miles it has just Sooted up again.

The Panamera engine suffered a major failure just out of the 3 year Warranty period. Porsche fitted a new engine and did not charge the full price, but it still cost us around 5K to have the new engine fitted.

In my opinion,Porsche should never have used an Audi Engine from the 'Parts Bin' and stuck it into a Porsche Hybrid. Even in normal Audi cars, this Direct Injection engine is prone to Sooting problems of the Airways and numerous cold starts in a Hybrid after running on electric power aggravates the problem.
 
Thanks all. I've just acquired a late 67 plate Panamera E-Hybrid Sport Turismo in replacement for the delayed Cayenne. So far I'm very pleased BUT am concerned about the "Soot" problems reported. I have got 2 years warranty though for now.
 
If it helps my Cayenne S e-hybrid did 25K miles in its first 5 months old (it was a DP car from Silverstone), I got it in Jan 2016 and since then has done 42,683, by my maths that is just shy of 18k miles in 3 1/2 years (less than 6k a year), I don't have a commute so all my driving is sub 20 miles trip around the village on A roads and a couple of trips each week further afield to probably 50ish mile trips up down the M3, to me that must have a good few cold starts and ICE to Hybrid fireups.

I would say that my car is white and has the bigger rear sports skirts, I do get a irritating soot build up on the body work around the exhaust tips
 
Good to see Cayenne Hybrid back on the configurator although interesting it is not no longer in the "S" category
