Cayenne Turbo - My New Daily Driver

Hi all,

Have owned my 2006 Cayenne Turbo for almost 6 months now and thought it was about time I joined the Porsche Club, the Cayenne section seemed a bit sparse so thought I would start a threat.

I spent a lot of my spare time restoring cars, I'm a keen detailer too (can easily spend several days cleaning my car) so I always like to start a thread when I buy a new car and update it over the years with various jobs (my e39 m5 thread on BMW5 is about 20 pages long haha), so wanted to get it started with some pictures of the CTT after I had given it a detail.

I purchased the car primarily to give my M5 a rest from daily driving, I have had my M5 for over 10 years and for the past 6/7 years I've had a second car to keep the mileage down on the M5, the problem I've always had is I just never want to drive anything else and end up in my M5, I had an RX8, Mini, BMW 745i over the past few years and I would always just grab the M5 keys and never want to drive the others, hence it now has 215000 miles on the clock. After 6 months owning the CTT I can honestly say I've finally found something to keep me out of my M5 daily, I absolutely love the drive, it's great to have a high driving position on the motorway and not having to worry to much about potholes and it's got some serious power for it's age too, well easily keep up with most things on the road and it stops very well too, it drinks the fuel but I really can't complain after 10 years of daily driving an M5 i'm already used to the high running costs.

Another big reason we got it was because my wife and I started a new business (a nail polish brand www.maggieanne.co.uk) were she often does beauty trade shows, having the Cayenne has meant we don't need to hire a van to carry stock around so it's a real great allrounder.

Anyway onto the Cayenne, it's a 2006, it had 55k miles on the clock when I purchased it and from what I can tell it seems to have the techno pack (am awaiting the certificate of authenticity from this club to verify soon hopefully), it was a little tatty when I picked it up, the interior was a little scratched and with footprints and little kick marks (previous owner had young children), outside looked great at first appearance but after cleaning / claybaring I could see it was very scratched with swirls literately all over the car, a small dent in one of the doors and I found a paint run on the rear bumper, so that must have been repainted at some point. It was also running a little rough at idle which didn't start happening until a couple of week after owning it and then in week 3 it cut out completely in traffic, it did restart but was hunting quite badly, this was fixed by cleaning the MAF's and replacing the coils / plugs.

I then spent 26 hours cleaning the car, I wet sanded the rear bumper runs and some of the deeper scratches and the did the usual compound / polish / sealant / wax, I then cleaned and dressed the engine bay, cleaned and conditioned the seats and interior and removed the exhaust / wheels so that I could clean and seal them all properly.

Really pleased with the results, will keep this page updated with all the work coming up..
