ha! - I wait with amusement to see the comments - have never yet seen anyone on here agree with Mr Clarkson. Usual principle is, if he hates it, you will love it. I'm sure you will enjoy it, it is a Porsche and they are all great cars. Welcome to the forum.

Hi Mario (and crazy wife) Welcome to the wonderful world of Porsche, you have chosen well. Take no notice of Clarkson - he has to say or write something to get paid. The standard Boxster and Cayman are wonderful and very capable cars and I am certain that you will not be at all disappointed. The only time you may hanker after the S version would possibly be on a track day but even then a good driver in a Cayman will outperform a bad driver in an S. By the way with Porsche, there is no such thing as a bad car although sometimes something may go wrong - you don’t often hear of the majority which perform faultlessly. Good luck with the new toy and happy motoring. Regards Paul

Mario, Every new Porsche owner should get a disclaimer related to Clarkson's views on his particular model. He certainly knows about cars but primarily he's a journalist and a self-promotionalist. He has got some fairly valid views but sometimes he goes too far just to get people talking and to promote his products. Every modern Porsche is a fantastic car, and your personal choice depends on what performance and driver involvement you want. Relax and enjoy ! You've got a beauty !

ciao mario!and crazee mrs mario!! i am sure you will love the cayman-the sublime handling is the same with whatever engine you have. enjoy[:D]

First of all hello everybody..

Mario is the name and my crazy wife and myself decided to buy a porsche last weekend and I can not wait to get the car home.

I have read a lot of car reviews and most reviews I have read ( Esp the one from Jeremy Clarkson) says that the non S model is a waste of money and so on.

The car we bought is a 2007 2.7l and I thought the only difference was performance and bigger brakes. Clarkson has rated the S very highly and it says its a Excellent car but on a different post he completely writes off the 2.7L.

Sorry but is the non S such a bad car ? I hope not (a bit late now) as Clarkson has really got me worried now..

Any comments are more than welcome..

Regards,

Mario

Excellent replies. Thanks guys. I know Clarkson is not a porsche fan in general watching top gear but I wanted to hear it from the real people.. I will sure enjoy the car and as it is the crazy wife dream car before we start a family I will keep you updated.

I have driven a 2.7 cayman for the last 8k miles. When I bought it there were comments made on various forums about how I should have bought an S as the 2.7 has poor resale value etc. due to it being the poor relation to the S. But, as I have not, and probably will not track the car, it is fast enough for road use where I live in the Thames Valley. Whilst it is nice to think I might have more power, not exactly sure where this can be used on the road safely apart from dual carriageways. And, to be perfectly honest going fast in a straight line is not really that much fun. It is much more fun trying to get the best performance on curvy bits of road. With the 2.7 if I make a mistake I can correct it due to the superb handling. This may sound lame, but at the end of the day disappearing into a hedge on a damp road is not really that much fun.

Not a hedge yet, but sidways off a damp roundabout once or twice. Must try to remember "Cayman more powerful than Golf GTI" [:)]

I am a much more relaxed person now.. I wont use the car on the track so I dont really need the extra power. Do you guys meet up as a club or anything :)

Hi Mario, Welcome to our world! I'm sure you will not be disappointed with your choice, as already voiced above. Porsche Club GB has two main areas, regions and registers. Once you are a member (you may be already?) you will be contacted by the relevant region to where you live. Each region has regular meets plus events taking place throughout the year. Registers are designated to each model group. Because all owners are likely to be spread across the country, there is less opportunity to meet. As the Cayman register, this year we have currently 2 events planned, the first at Gaydon in May, and the next one at our annual weekend get together, this year in Ireland (June). In addition, there will be the national club event at Blenheim Palace (July) whereby all members/regions/registers are assembled. Should you not yet be a member to the club, please feel welcome to contact me and arrange to visit Gaydon, where you might get a feel for club life if you so choose.

Hey all, Sorry I have been away and we were suppose to pick up the car last weekend but due to miscommunications with Porsche (no tax disk) we are picking up the car tomorrow. I cant wait to drive the car again and this time give it a bit fo stick to see how it feels. I will let you know thoughts soon Mazza
