With Boxster pricing at £41,739 and £50,695 for base and S, respectively (just £1,641 and £2,142 over outgoing 981 models) and Porsche's announced policy of higher Boxster pricing than Cayman, will 718 Cayman be less than £40,000 and the S less than £50,000?
 
I only bought my Cayman 981 brand new September 2014. Sucks to see the 981 be downgraded against a boxster. I feel a little ripped of as I believed major upgrades happened every 7 year approx. Is it worth getting rid of before the new one comes out April 2016?

 
Porsche generally upgrade the platform (987 to 981) over maybe 7 to 8 years but have a mid-life refresh (often with new engines/gearboxes) so 987 second generation introduced new DFI engine and PDK v Tiptronic gearbox, amongst other things.

What the announced Boxster premium will do to 981 models 2nd hand values who knows.. The 981 does have a normally aspirated engine which will IMO support large market interest.

i suspect they will be of similar price and power. The Gts when it comes along will have 15hp and £5k increase followed by the gt4.2 with circa 400-425 hp (f4 turbo)and Pdk option for £70k+ base and any gt4rs 450hp f4 turbo Pdk option and a price of £85k+ base.

What engine they use is the problem,as of this year the 3.8na and all other 9A1 will be defunct so only 2 f6 to use one has a turbo bolted to it the other is in the gt3rs! if racing demands cleaner engines then it will be a f4 turbo as f6 turbo will not fit.

The next gt4 is most likely 2 years away if porsche follow the usual release schedule so will most likely be a f4 turbo.

For what it's worth (and as stated by AP?), I think that the GT cars - and by inference the GT4 Mk2 - will retain the n/a engines at least until the 991 and 981/718 full replacements come along. Like all manufacturers, the creeping adoption by Porsche of turbocharging across the whole range seems inevitable.

Now that the 718 Cayman will be cheaper than its Boxster equivalent - which must actually reflect real world production costs - I wonder if both cars will now always have identical power outputs.

So, will the official designation of the platform be "718" with 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman the primary variants with subgroups associated with these variants?

So that the Porsche model range will become:

718

911

etc

with 718 Cayman being analogous to 911 Carrera and 718 Boxster analogous to 911 Cabriolet?

 
I'm taking delivery of my Cayman S in March and couldn't be more please that it will be running one of the last 6 cylinder n/a engines. I think they have made the 718 look much less aggressive at the front and too fussy at the back. In fact the only thing I like about the new model is the steering wheel and infotainment system.
