Cayman 981 GTS

Good evening!
My first post on the forum after recently purchasing my first Porsche, a Cayman 981 GTS!
After owning a few fast Ford RS cars over the years I decided it was time to make the leap as I’ve hankered over buying a Porsche for a few years now.

After searching autotrader and other selling platforms for cars for best part of a year I eventually purchased a one owner white GTS directly from the original owner of the car!
The car is a mint example that has been very well looked after and not used during the winter months and always garaged!

After owning the RS cars which I never really used apart from a few car shows, and showing one at the NEC Classic car show i am quite fussy with my cars and like to keep them in mint condition and good running order!

Last weekend I took my car to my local Porsche service centre( Newport) for a major service including plugs and brake fluid etc!
The car came back with a clean bill of hea apart from 2 minor issue!
One was that the foam to inflate the tyres was out of date and the other was that the bracket that holds the air con pipe to the body at the engine bay requires replacing was corroded!
Does Anyone know please if the air con pipe bracket is a common issue on the 981 or not, as the service centre said they were having difficulties trying to source one and have not got back to me about it like they said they would?
Also do people actually use the tyre foam if they have a puncture or not please?

kind regards
Geraint

Hi Garaint,

Welcome to Cayman ownership and to the forum. Pleased to hear that you’ve managed to pick-up what sounds like an excellent 981.

I’m not aware that the bracket you mention is a common issue, but I’m not surprised that corrosion has found its way into a mild steel part. All part of Porsche’s cost cutting I’m afraid … on what’s supposed to be a premium car!🙄

I wouldn’t bother with the Porsche tyre foam. It’s very expensive, and you’re better off buying something off the shelf at Halfords if you really want a replacement. Personally I’d never use it, and the tyre fitters hate the stuff. My 2009 987.2 CS still has the original in its packaging!😀

Get out and enjoy the car this summer.

Jeff

PS: Getting a call-back from dealers is always hit-and-miss. Be persistent!

Good evening Jeff

Thank you for the reply and welcome.

Yes I’m really pleased with the car and glad I waited until I found a nice example!
Thanks for the info regarding the tyre foam, I will keep on trying to get an answer from the dealer!

I intend to enjoy the car and have a few trips planned!

Regards
Geraint
