Cayman Daytime Running Light question

Hi,
I was looking at buying a 2012 Porsche Cayman 2.9 and have a quick question regarding the two led lights at the front of the car. I thought they were supposed to be on regardless of what position the headlight switch is in but the dealer told me they only come on when it is turned to the sidelight position. Is this correct on this particular year and model?

Many thanks

Rob,

Don't confuse the LED sidelights with the daytime running lights. The latter are always on if your light switch is off and the sidelights are on when you switch on the lights.

I don't know the answer but if you think your dealer doesn't know what he's talking about you could try consulting your manual.

Thanks for the quick reply. I thought the LED were the daytime ones. There were no lights on the front when I got out of the car to look whilst the engine was running. Do I presume this is a setting that has them switched off as an option?

Thanks

Rob

The round LED lights are the DRL's, and you should be able to switch them on and off using the OBC stalk. You can have the strip LED side lights (front and rear) coming on at the same time as the DRLs if you want. If you have extended navigation you might be able to do this through the main menu options, but if not it can be programmed with a PIWIS tester. I did it on mine.

The info you need is on Page 51 of the manual IIRC from looking up the same issue this weekend! If you have normal halogen headlights the 'daytime running light function' is to have both your dipped beams and LED sidelights on when the engine running. You can turn this function on or off using the OBC stalk. Personally I think having the dipped beams on all the time is overkill so have turned it off and just put the light switch to sidelights which means the LED sidelights are on and acting as the DRLS.

Just a quick last question! I haven't took delivery of the car yet so I cant check about turning the daytime running lights on or off via the OBC but I did look at the online Cayman manual and it mentions you can only turn them on/off in the USA version or the car. Is this correct? I know a couple of your replies did say they can be turned on/off though on UK cars.

Yes Robo, I turned mine off using the OBC stalk. My UK manual says something like 'day time running likes can be turned on/off in countries where it not mandatory to have them'. As they are not mandatory in the UK, the OBC option is enabled for us.
