I expect Mr Sharpe will end up forming a Cayman Register and thereafter a Croc Forum.

depends on what the real Cayman owners think !
I guess, we will find out tomorrow when they take delivery of their car.
It depends how much the "It's a seperate model - honest Gov' " message is lapped up by the owners I suppose...[

I agree that the 996 and 997 are on different fora but the splitting the 987 and Cayman is like splitting the 997 coupe and cab and that would be ridiculous! Interested to hear the future Cayman owners views though as you say Kish.ORIGINAL: burrow01
But the 996's and 997's are split, and you probably would not get a fag paper in the differences between those
But is it really any different?
It could be equally argued that a 2.5 Boxster and a 3.2S Boxster are sufficiently different that they need seperate registers.
Personally, I think all the M96 engined cars are VERY close in what matters to a forum (i.e technically, how does "this" fit?, what does this look like?, do these wheels fit? etc...)

From what I've read it appears that the Cayman is very different to a Boxster not just in the areas of body/trim but also suspension and engine. According to 991 & Porsche World, the block is from a 3.2 Boxster S, cylinder heads are 996 carrera, and the camshafts are from a 3.8 carrera S. It also has Variocam Plus. All in all a very different car. It's bound to have it's own parts catalogue and hence should have its own register. In fact, in the Porsche Post that was delivered today, Robin Walker stated that there'd be a separate register.
would have to agree...
look at the 944 v 968 = very similiar coupe's but different register and forum....
so this is the 1st car of it's type post the 968, anyway in view of the size of the community a seperate forum makes sense, although I wonder why the boxy world are sooooooo keen to keep cayman ? or does that mean it is really a boxster with just a roof ! [

[] When Boxster "S goes 3.4 next year this will be even more apt IMO
So Robert, you are saying my predictions will come true?

Mark or Admin, this forum should really be re-named Boxster & Cayman, to make it obvious... I think a number of people have found it difficult to figure out where to post Cayman related posts...

Yes there is to be a seperate register.
But is it really any different?
Having just returned from an hours drive in the Cayman I can confirm it is definitely a COXSTER no matter what Porsche marketing would like the public to think [8D]
The car is obviously stiffer than the roadster but all the main characteristics and charms of the Boxster are replicated in the Cayman and its without doubt a FHC version of a Boxster despite having a whopping 15 extra horses and 200cc advantage for now [
To sum up ... It's a bloody great Porsche, but no more thrilling or different to justify the extra £5000 premium over the Boxster which maybe slightly slower through the twisty bits but feels even more thrilling with the roof down and wind in ones hair [8D]
