Hi all,

I am close to buying a Porsche approved cayman 981 gt4 which has dipped below £70k so seems to be a fair price considering 2 years warranty and it has a number of options added like sports chrono. However I have just read they don’t come with parking sensors which is a bit of a pain.

so just wanted to get any insights into

1. Is not having parking sensors on the 981 gt4 a pain? I have a tight garage to get the car in hence the question

as if it’s a pain I am thinking wait for a cayman 718 gt4. but what are the collective thoughts on are they likely to drop much below £79k (cheapest in the country at the mo)?as that is another option if I really want sensors and front axle lift.

thanks

pete

No front axle lift option on the GT4, only on the GT4RS. Both sensors and a camera available on the 718 GT4 and of course they're incredibly useful with a wide, low car and a rear wing.

718 GT4s are likely to stay above 981 GT4 prices, and once the stock levels at OPCs deplete come spring I suspect they'll level off from their current decline when there are fewer for sale. It's all guesswork in the current economic climate though, obviously, and no one knows for sure what will happen.

I had a 981 GT4 which had a rear camera and that was fine for reversing into the garage etc. I have not driven the 718 version but based on what I have heard, the 981 sounds much better.

Pros and cons to each of the 981 and 718, the engines are very different in my experience. See if you can try both and decide which you prefer. [:)]

No ...

I place a cardboard box-section against the wall in case I ever get too close - I stop well in advance, gracefully [;)] :ROFLMAO: exit the bucket seat (your car MUST have buckets !!!) and roll the car to it`s final resting place prior to inserting a wheel chock to secure

Have you seen the following comparison ? ... Having owned - driven several of the cars that the author has tested, I find that he one of the best in relating how a car performs - feels

Low cost parking sensor for garages, duplex operation…

Thanks for sharing the video - that was the best one i have watched so far and confirms the older model is the way to go. Plus n9 parking sensors isn’t the end of the world

not to maybe find one with the bucket seats and clubsport package…

thanks again

I do the same - but mine is a sponge wrapped in camo gorilla tape! I remember as a young boy a neighbour having a cup on A string in their garage for the same purpose! 2 x Volvo estates in a tandem garage.

I got fed up with walking into the tennis ball. Resorted to a short board on the floor, then I changed cars which had front and rear sensors.

Q: How do you go on when you take the vehicle out and about, do you take the tennis ball with you? :ROFLMAO:

Here's hoping that 2023 is better than the last few years the country has had.

Hi all,

pleased to say I have bought and picked up my Cayman gt4 (981). Looked around for quite a while and ended up finding this one for sale at a private dealer near reading.

it’s done 7,000 miles and is a clubsport spec. one of the best motorway dives in a long time and no looking forward to getting out and about in it.

thanks

pete

Well done Pete!

Good to hear that you’ve found a suitable car … great timing to get some road miles in during spring and summer. 😀
