Cayman GT4 Tyre Pressure and Valves

I've been a Porsche Club member for nearly a year now and this is my first post so hello all.

I bought a new Cayman Gt4 December last year and have loved every second driving the car.

I have come across some issues with Tyres and wondered if there is anyone else that has experienced a similar issue.

As far as I am aware, the tyres on the GT4 have pressure monitors in the Valves on each tyre independently.

My car has twice now told me I have a puncture and upon having it checked by my local Tyre man they have checked and said that it is not a puncture but in fact the valve leaking air. (both offside and near side front tyres)

If anyone has had a similar issue id love to hear from you and if you have managed to do anything to avoid it.

Cheers
Chris

I once had a similar problem on my 987 Spyder at low miles although no tpms, all it needed was the internal part of the valve tightened which is a cheap simple little plastic tool that inserts into the top of the Valve. If the problem doesn't go away get opc to fit new valves under warranty!

Hi Chris

I had a false reading on a track day recently, the system warning indicated low pressure in the front near side tyre. I came straight in, checked the pressure only to find nothing wrong. The system then reset and no problems since.

Surely all the onboard TPMS does is warn you that the pressure is low? If you then use the onboard computer to interogate the TPMS, it will show you what pressures are in all four of the wheels and let you decide if you need to stop urgently, or whether the recorded pressures have just marginally dropped below the range allowed by the TPMS

(I have a 981 Spyder, not a GT4, but I would not have thought the TPMS would have been different to that on the GT4)

Hi guys thanks for the replies.

Paul08 you are right I went into the tpms and checked the pressures and they were dropping pressure on the tyres. Checked for obvious leaks on the valves but no air seemed to be coming out. Rotated the tyres and checked for nails screws etc and nothing.

Now I have had the valve replaced it hasn't happened since but was just wondering if anyone else had had the issue.

I'm considering seeing if my local porsche centre will just swap out the valves.

Loving the car though despite this. Going to try get some track days in next year and maybe a trip across Europe in it.

Cheers

Chris
