Cayman GTS Interior Alcantara or leather?

I wondered what the view was on if the GTS interior is a must in alcantara or if alcantara delete with leather is equally desirable.

Any thoughts on how one or another affects resale / desirability?

Many thanks

Paul

I would go on personal preference Paul. I can’t see it making much difference to resale, but I guess most folk looking for a GTS would expect it as part of the package.

(If leather, the seats need to be heated!)

Having just moved from heated leather to non heated alcantara, the latter is more comfortable.

Will possibly only miss the heat on long trips.

I would never go for alcantra - the wear could be significant, especially on the steering wheel. It would stain easily too.

I've not had an alcantera wheel myself but from what I've read I think that's a bit of a myth Peter, and it's quite straightforward to refresh the finish. Alcantera's much more durable than people think.

Paul, it's your car so just go for whatever finish you prefer and don't worry about resale.

Jeff

To bust the myth re: wear

I have owned 3 Porsche's with alcantra and have never experienced any issues with wear and actually find the durability equal to that of leather. It's also easier to clean.

I've had my 981 GTS for six years / 41000 miles and the steering wheel and other surfaces are wearing really well. As for which material is best, I've paid extra for more leather in my previous five Porsches, but would be very reluctant to choose it over alcantara now.

I'm sure you'll love whatever you decide on.

After 40000 miles, my hot and sticky mitts had polished the alcantara in places on both gear knob and steering wheel. Warm soapy (washing machine liquid rather than detergent) water and a couple of microfibre cloths sorted it very quickly. You can be quite brutal with the rubbing and I have found the alcantara is very durable, absorbing scuffs and scrapes which would mark leather.

I'd always go alcantara given the choice - unless seat cooling available with leather maybe? I'm not a fan of leather seats, cold in winter, hot and sticky in summer, even with seat heating they still feel freezing in winter when you first jump in. Leather also takes a reasonable amount of looking after to keep at its best, especially seats and contact points like wheel/gearknob

GTS interior doesn't wear badly, and easy to look after - like John I had the patches on steering wheel and gear knob, but damp microfibre cloth worked a treat. Porsche newsroom had a post on instagram, 22nd April, on caring for and cleaning alcantara which was useful. I didn't use any cleaner, just water, and came up well. https://www.instagram.com/p/B_RjGXsqT7C/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet

Hopefully that link works.

This is a very personal matter; I think you have to decide which you personally like. For myself I hate alcantara - I can’t stand the way it feels, I think it’s horrible so I’ve specced my GTS 4.0 to remove every bit of the stuff.

But I am fully aware that there are plenty of people that love it and they are not not wrongL it’s what they like.

We all like different things.

I am pleased to be corrected regarding the wear of Alcantra.

It's still not for me though as i have had several suede items of clothing in the past that stained easily and wore quite significantly.

Not that I ever got drunk, spilt my beer or takeaway or fell over a in a sodden heap................... [8|] Honest guv!

Re. alcantara vs leather, I think it depends which model you're considering:

981 or 718 GTS - alcantara a must for resale, used cars with full leather stick around and sell for lower prices

718 GTS 4.0 - as the only NA non-GT in the Porsche range I think it matters less as long as the rest of the spec, including the colour scheme, is coherent as it's pretty much a model in its own right rather than a GTS-spec trim level

My 981 GTS has the Alcantara interior with leather steering wheel, my perfect combo. Well, I'd love the GT4 wheel, or to be honest one with buttons; hardest move from my M4 is the PCM interface, woeful vs having iDrive & CarPlay for use of deezer etc.

Aside from that, the car is perfect. Went out for an hours drive today, just because!

I agree with this view and have put my wallet behind it in the sense I have a GTS 4.0 due for delivery in September and have removed every single piece of Alcantara. My aim is to create as close as I think we will ever get to a GT4 Touring so it has the part leather/part cloth seats and even a fabric roof lining.

Agree re idrive, 981 system is woeful for a 2016 car, my 2017 m140i daily driver is from a different century infotainment system wise, but still prefer to be in the cayman of course

I'd just love to be able to interact with Deezer via the PCM vs having to select it from the phone & then only go back / forward....and as for the stalk music control, all it gives me for the next songs is displayed as 'Deezer, Deezer etc' unless I am doing something wrong!

Well, I'd love the GT4 wheel

The `cloth` compliments the `feel` perfectly …
Damn you, that doesn't help! Looks amazing.
