Cayman GTS has made an appearance on the Porsche UK website, no full details or on the configurator but apparently available from June/July.
So, question is, has any one seen the full spec including what's included in the baseline model, web isn't too clear.

I'm undecided whether to stick or twist on my current Cayman R and hold out for a year or so until there's a 981 R.

Thoughts?
 
Colin, From memory, in addition to the 15hp power hike and modified front and rear PUs, the spec will include 20" Carrera S wheels, PASM, a sports exhaust (PSE?), leather and a bespoke fascia design, a sport design steering wheel and possibly, full climate control. I'm sure that it will represent a saving on a similar spec Cayman S. Not long to wait now though. Regarding a 981R, you may well have a long wait. Possibly MY2016 or beyond? Jeff

This arrived from Hatfield PC this afternoon: I am pleased to inform you that the new Porsche Cayman GTS (Type 981) was announced worldwide today. Porsche’s GTS models draw their inspiration from the company’s motorsports heritage. With increased power, unique specification and a particularly sporty character GTS models embody the distilled essence of Porsche. The Cayman GTS boasts an uprated 3.4-litre flat-six engine with direct fuel injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus, delivering 340 hp, 15 hp more than that of the Cayman S. With the standard six-speed manual gearbox the Cayman GTS accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in only 4.9 seconds and achieves a top speed of 177 mph. Add the optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission and, using the Launch Control function from the standard Sport Chrono package, this time drops to just 4.6 seconds. Externally, the GTS stands out from other Cayman models thanks to specific design touches including prominent new air intakes which exude pure sportiness. The stretched silhouette is sleek and the restyled rear apron makes the new model appear even more purposeful. Smoked LED taillights lend expressive accents, with the Cayman GTS logo in black adding a name to this intensely sporty design. The Cayman GTS pricing starts from £55,397 (including VAT at 20%). The GTS Interior Package With the optional GTS interior package, the sporty contrast of the exterior theme is continued in the interior. The standard black interior of the Cayman GTS is supplemented by sporty accents in Carmine Red or Rhodium Silver. These include ‘GTS’ logos embroidered on the headrests in the contrasting colour. Sport Chrono Package Fitted as standard, the SPORT button enables you to select a suspension setup where the emphasis is on either comfort or sporty performance. With the SPORT PLUS button depressed, this gives the option of a harder damper setting and a more direct steering response. The Sport Chrono Package also includes dynamic gearbox mounts which when added to the optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission with the Launch Control, the Cayman GTS can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.6 seconds. Sports Exhaust System Featuring a modified main silencer and a specially designed sports tailpipe, the sports exhaust system further enhances the powerful, resonant and sporty sound of the Cayman GTS. Sound varies with driving behaviour, ranging from a robust output during normal road driving to a distinctively more aggressive tone during performance use. The system is activated by a separate switch integrated into the right half of the front control panel.
 
Not sure that PASM and Sport Chrono would necessarily appeal to the boulevard cruisers Brian; although PSE might. I note that Sports Suspension (20mm lower) can be specified in-lieu of PASM (10mm lower), as can the PTV/LSD option and Sports Bucket Seats. Might give a standard R a run for its money in the meantime..? Personally, I think a 3.8L 400hp Cayman RS is a pipe-dream and could only happen if Porsche were persuaded to take the Cayman racing. Unfortunately, I can't see that happening given their current commitments to the GT3 and 919. Jeff

So sad that Porsche will probably never develop the Cayman's true potential as a competition car, particularly given the long line of 911 GT2/GT3 RS models which have a long history of motorsport success. It would just be too much of a seismic shift for the traditionalists. Crazy or what? Brian
Agreed Brian. At least they run a couple of one-make series in the States - CaymanSpec Racing and Cayman Interseries - to give the marque some racing exposure. It's a pity that we only see a few Caymans and Boxsters in our own Club races here. Hopefully we'll be seeing more of them in future as their true potential becomes more apparent. Back on topic, I'm disappointed to note that Porsche have chosen to include Sport Chrono rather than PTV/LSD in the GTS spec. Pandering to the PDK fraternity I suspect, since a clear majority of buyers seem to favour this option. Jeff

It may not be a track fiends dream, but that spec for £55k is way lower then what it would cost to raise a standard S to that level. £7-10k less off the top of my head. Those who have time to spend all day in the configurator can work it out exactly :) There is no mention on the mail sent to me of any limit in time or number of cars, so i guess they'll make it until end of next manufacturing year at least. I think the engineers were under a strict directive as to what they need to come up with. The chassis engineers can do no less with the brilliant mid-engined platform and that probably left the engine engineers spending weeks working out just how much they need to turn the wick down on the engine to rein the car in below the 991 Carrera. 325HP got signed off for the Cayman S. Now they wanted more power for the marketing of the GTS model, no weight saving was allowed - isn't the PSE heavier than the standard exhaust? Better bolt that on as standard[:D] One thing is for sure, an R will not come until the Carrera gets an engine power upgrade[;)] [&o] I think the GTS is a great package but as they haven't put that much effort into bringing anything new to it, I think that leaves plenty of room and much more probability for an R to follow. It wouldn't surprise me though if the R had to make do with the 340HP and be marketed soley on weight saving (and include as standard the existing Sport Chassis instead of PASM)
 
Just out of interest, I spent about 5 mins on the configurator: Cayman S with PASM, SC, PSE, PDLS, 20" Carerra S wheels, Sports seats Plus, Leather, Sports Design steering wheel and Smoked tail lights: £56,023 (with £8,069 in options). GTS: £55,397, although the PSE doesn't seem to include the Sports tailpipe (£365) which is included in the PSE option for the S. However, there's a 15PS power hike over the S. So, a reasonable discount for the total package but you may well be able to get a similarly-specced Cayman S for similar money (10% discount on retail?). Jeff
 
Interesting to note that TPMS is now included as standard across the whole range. I'm surprised that it's taken so long; I thought that a European directive to include this feature on all new cars has been in place for some time. Jeff
 
Jeff, it's:- As of 1st November 2012, all new-type vehicles will be required by EU law to have a pressure based tyre pressure monitoring system installed. This applies to the road wheels, not the spare. (I believe this in respect of a new, previously not manufactured model of vehicle). By November 2014, all new passenger vehicles will have to have TPMS installed by the manufacturer. The law is not currently retrospective, and does not apply to older vehicles
 
TPMS was to be brought in this year on all vehicles in Europe, so yes Jeff you're correct.
 
Chris/Kevan. Thanks chaps. Good to have that clarified. More work for the tyre factors, PCs and Indies then. We'll probably now see a "Replace TPMS sensors" item appearing in the 4-year maintenance schedule. Jeff
 
Yes, it's another thing that many will only maintain when MOT is done! Like their lights!![:mad:] Not referring to readers here of course.
