I just completed a holiday trip in my 2006 Cayman 2.7, from Wigan in Lancashire down to Royan on the west coast of France via the Eurotunnel.
My Cayman achieved 37MPG overall over the 2000 miles covered which I thought was outstanding! The driving was at mixed speeds, motorways, country lanes, towns etc. even during the week we stayed around the Royan area, visiting villages, shops beaches, just local trips it achieved 32 mpg over half a tank full.
I was pleasantly pleased with the overall MPG which made it affordable to go on holiday in the Cayman rather than take a boring BMW Diesel!
My Cayman has now done 34,000 miles and it's MPG seems to have improved over the 10,000 miles and 3 years of ownership (not that MPG was ever a consideration when buying it, but it is a bonus!) I previously owned a Subaru Impreza and could never achieve anything like this economy from it!
The only criticism would be the 5 speed gearbox, so many times I tried to select a 6th gear, it seems like it could easily use one when cruising on the motorway! Maybe I should upgrade to an S ?
