Cayman on 17" Rims

can't decide on this one.

anyone think they look too small for the proportion of the arches?

however, i have read that some guys have deliberately put them on to replace 19's due to their overly firm ride

would it put you off a purchase if the car had 17's?
i am looking for a 2.7 and found one i like with them on but cant decide

thoughts?

I've only seen a couple of 2.7 with 17" wheels but I think they look better than the 18" I have. Might just be me but the higher profile tyre gives the car a look akin to the old Ferrari Dino. Can't comment on ride quality etc. as I've never been in one.

Like Nick I've never been in a Cayman with 17's but however I did have a 986S with them, the ride was noticeably softer than my son's S on 18's as for preference I prefer the firmer ride and have 19's on my CS.

I have two different sets of 17's and wouldn't thank you for anything bigger. I prefer the look on 17's as I think 19 and 20 rims makes the car look like a cartoon. The difference in ride is overstated, even on 17s the Gen 1 is jiggly. The Gen 2 car less so, but wheels and tyres are not the critical factor, despite what the journos say. For road use the 17's have just the right amount of grip, and allow you to feel the car better. I find the bigger tyres smother the chassis feel. Oh ... and the 17 tyres are a good deal cheaper too.

Don't think it's the visual look of the actual wheels that don't look right just the huge amount of rubber visible in the walls needed to fill the arches. If that makes sense The design of the standard 17s I think look bigger than the 18s

Mind you, that depth of rubber makes it much less likely to crack an alloy on a pothole, something which is all too common with very low profile tyres

I have seen a 2.7 with 19's and due to the brakes being smaller than the 3.4 S it looks strange and to agree with John there is a greater liability to damaging a rim with the 19's but to me the 17's do look like balloons. On a 2.7 I think 18's would be optimum for most eventualities.

the 17s look awful - i test drove a cayman auto with 17s before i got the manual S with 18s. The 19s look awesome but the 18s are still a big visual improvement over the 17s
