Cayman pre-purchase inspection

On a two year old car you would assume no issues but at two years why is it outside the OPC network? For all it costs it will give you piece of mind Interestingly the published prices on RSJ seem a wee bit high compared to OPC's (without knowing exactly what you are looking at)

Chaps

The 944 S2 has gone, the BMW is for sale, I'm back from holiday and all that stands between now and Christmas is the job of finding one nice replacement for both cars.

I'm off to look at a Cayman S this weekend, at RSJ in Slough. What is the current thinking on having a PPI done. I seem to remember reading on this forum earlier in the year that the concensus was only a madman would buy outside of the OPC network without a PPI.

Now for a 17 year old 964 I can sort of understand that, and having spent a pretty penny on my S2, I wish I had done it then, but will it apply to a 2 year old Cayman? What risk am I likely to mitigate by getting one done? Financial rack and ruin? Or shall I just chalk it up as a worthwhile precaution.

Thanks

James

It's the Basalt Black one with the rare (and to my eyes desirable) rear wiper delete and 36k miles. Currently up at a tad under £28k which is steep compared to say Jan this year, but a quick OPC search this lunchtime flagged up no 3.4s under the magic £30k figure save for one with 50k miles. Thia one has been around for a while though - so maybe there's some flexibility.

i would still advise a ppi for peace of mind.not unreasonble to be outside opc network-a huge no.of 997s are as well.at £28k that seems not too bad provided all is well.-the most i have been offered was£25k in p/ex and mine is atlas grey well specced 18k miles with the all important extra cost (NOT delete option!)rear wiper[:D] good luck!

Wipers rule. Porsche satnav @ £1200 is used food. Go for the inspection but interpret the findings in the light of the business opportunity that it might generate.

Alex, I'm not sure what you mean - used food? Plus, surely if an independent inspection finds things that need doing, it's not the independent inspector that is getting the work? At least I think that's what you meant?? Anyway, it's slightly academic because said Cayman S has evidence of a respray with some peeling lacquer on the driver's rear three quarter. Not the car for me, but RSJ seem sound enough. Interesting business model though, all their cars are on the 2nd floor of a building, brought there via a lift, and I got the impression that you'd need to give them a lot of notice to get a test drive. The search continues....

good luck with the hunt-at least at £28k for that specimen means less depreciation so those of us who bought new wont be taking such a big hit(if we ever sell them of course!!)[:D]
