Cayman R first reviews

I drove one at Porsche Silverstone last Tuesday, and it was absolutely fantastic. 'Tried both the Manual and the PDK, and to be honest, loved the PDK. The Porsche high friction circuit is quite small and PDK makes it very easy to trail brake deep into the corners, changing down late and rolling the foot across to the throttle to tighten the line without having to work too hard on gear changing --- whilst keeping both hands on the wheel ! The PDK is also a 7 gear box which makes the very best of the short straights where otherwise third would sometimes be a little too high in the Manual. And did I mention that it's more economical and faster than the Manual ? So, I've ticked the boxes on PDK, PCCB's, sports exhaust, auto aircon, sports chrono, plus a few other personalising touches, in Peridot Metallic and Black. There, a fabulously specced Cayman R for the price of a standard C2. And we gave a new GT3RS a run for it's money whilst we were settling the Manual v. PDK question !!

Yes, perfect. I did like the better feel that PCCB's gave and PDK is great! Did you try the very impressive party trick - launch control? Nick

Actually, no. Apart from "off the line" starts in racing (where most places are at stake) , I have never done this. Partly because on many Porsche cars the first gear is only a friction weld on it's shaft [;)] But, the double clutch system was designed to do this ... and so I'm told, in an astonishingly reliable manner !

Hi Chris sounds like you had a great time with the 'R', its nice to read the things you liked about it the PDK etc. I placed my order back last November with a very similar spec as you PDK and or course Peridot having never seen one, but owned an 'S' for the last 6 years, mine goes into build next week then a long wait for the shipping to Australia hopping for delivery some time late June just in time for our winter Bob South Australia
