You've poked a hornets nest now as there are many differing opinions.... or maybe just Mr D against everyone else ;) For brakes you need GT3 Master Cyl, some good comp fluid, Bigger ducts (GT3 or GT2 are better) and another mod is Titanium back plates which reflect the heat so as not to overheat the fluid. Geometry is for the experts with good equipment. CoG have had good reports although I never tried them ;)

 
Geo, max out the top mount slots.

brakes cheapest is upgrade the disks to gyro 340mm ones.

shims, fluid, pads, mc, won,t net you squat on track, there is a heat issue and unless you fix that you are just moving the problem around and will get the very same fade Just a lap later at even higher temps which will then kill your calipers Seals and pucks and turn your disks blue :)

yes pads and fluid will allow more heat but it's a mask not a cure.

so upgrading disk size while fitting, pads, fluid and GT3 ducts is a good start.

MC is personal choice, that just makes the pedal move less ! Which imo makes it harder to threshold brake And harder to heal and toe. people fit it due to the pedal moving too far when the brakes get hot ie to the floor lol , again, a mask over fixing the heat issue ! done by people who think they can cut corners :)

my other 987 has 996 6 pot GT3 calipers and 350mm disks , still without the GT3 MC as the pedal don't start to get long as my brakes system does not over heat !

For a real track day tool, monoball rear toe links, fully adjustable monoball lca all round, engine mounts and short shift, with some rad cal race calipers. See Mr tippers car, he tried to fix his brakes spent about 1k, failed now doing it right the 2Nd time.

Fit cup 2's and for power fit some new sports manifolds.

if you want to take it more, jrz 2 way sports coilovers, and a lipo battery with some carbon race seats.

my Spyder is that spec bar the shocks and it is amazing fun, like a big Elise :)

or you can buy a GT4 which makes a far better track day tool and keep the R as a very nice road car only going up in value. It’s great out the box as a road car as is :)

Did he heck!! He's quoting rubbish he's heard on t'internet again... (Sorry D but you're wrong) I have an R and have tracked it and done some sprints and hillclimbs too. I can assure you the mods I suggest are the best you can do.

I now have a Boxster race car and I fitted the Giro discs to that and tbh the benefit was negligible. It is same calipers and pads and slightly lager disc not a major change and for over a grand not a great mod. Better to buy 6 pots and hubs etc if you want to go that far

it's all very straight forward work, I only do my own brakes, as I don't have a double garage or a 4 post lift, so SUS arm fitment C of G did all that work for me.

My manifolds Porsche OPC did the work. Any brake work I do at home myself. I also have a Dunlop Optical Alignment Gauge and can do a basic string line geo as I have 2 setting(with added shims) for my Spyder so I add an extra shim for track and then that needs a slight toe change. My Spyder retired from track about 4 years ago though, I went and bought a GT4, now own the new GT3 which I am looking forward to get on track. My R and my Spyder are just fun road cars, although I do have the 340mm disks for my R as a fast road set up with medium friction pads which don't squeal for a road car.
