Cayman R tyre noise

Try Pirelli PZero's next time, I found them much quieter on my 996 when I changed from the standard Michelins.

I have a nine month old car with 19" wheels and factory fitted Michelins. On all but the smoothest surfaces the road noise is appalling. Does anyone have experience of other makes of tyre that are quieter?

One of my main complaints about modern Porsches (apart from savage depreciation) is tire noise. I paid extra for a sports exhaust but could not hear it at 60 mph due to the excessive tire noise. I have heard that Pirellis are quieter (excuse the pun [:D] ).

Agree with other posts, I had a Boxster with 18 ins and Michelins and the road noise was a lot higher than my Cayman with 19ins and P Zeros, also the ride is better. Both Gen II so similar set up to the R, except the sports suspension makes the ride stiffer.

I have 19" Bridgestones but have previously had Continentals and Michelins without tyre noise being a problem on my Gen 1 Cayman S having had Pirellis on the Previous Boxster S I prefer the better grip of Michelins and Bridgestones I find just as good. Maybe the revisions to Gen 2 suspension cause more noise transmission. But then I had a squeak from the LH quarter light which drove me nuts for about a year, since that was cured it's heaven. Tyre noise is no problem.

I had a Cayman R for a weekend - Good and Bad news was:- Bad - I could not hear the Radio Good - was I could not hear the passenger[;)]

Mmmm, tyre noise is probably is greater than our S from what I remember but not uncomfortably so, having said that our daily driver is a BMW X1 which has the worst ride quality of any new car you can buy!

My 7 month old Cayman R has Bridgestone Potenza's on 19" rims and I can't say I've noticed excessive tyre noise. I did read an article prior to buying it that described tyre noise as "heroic", but can't remember which tyres the test car had.
