Cayman R - what’s this worth?

My thoughts are that without the bucket seats (£2k each?), without the ‘R’ wheels (£3k set?), and without Sport+, you’re not gaining a great deal over a Cayman S for which a dealer may ask around £27k (£23k private sale). Does it have extended leather, or proper climate control?

So, because it’s an ‘R’ but low spec my guess is as a private sale it could be worth about £30k? I’ll be interested to hear what other people value it at.

Any Cayman R experts on here?

Looking for opinions on what this is worth as it has been offered to me.

Late 2011 PDK in Aqua Blue with Climate control, heated Sports seats, PCM 3.1 and rear Park Assist, and (annoyingly) the first owner ordered the Turbo II alloys from new instead of the standard Spyders. So no bucket seats, no Chrono, and arguably the "wrong” wheels.

Mileage is not low - 84k - but it has been well maintained, pretty much all main dealer & specialist servicing, it is however due the big service though.

Lots done in the last 4k miles: Disks and pads all round, front springs, dampers, top mounts & tuning forks, coolant crossover pipes, air con condensors, Michelin PS2’s.

It also has a Milltek exhaust - not sure what the general opinion is of these, I don’t want anything with any droning or resonance.

Condition seems to be very good overall, I’ve seen a lot of hi-res photos so far (it’s 2-3 hours away).

What’s it worth, in this rather depressed market?

I know the manual is more desirable than the PDK. Are the lighter Spyder wheels essential for resale? All the R’s on Autotrader don’t seem to be selling, is it a spec / colour thing or are they just very optimistically priced, given the market conditions?

I’ve no idea about prices Dave, but broadly I’d go along with Andrew’s comments and add that at that mileage I’d be wary of a PDK car. Although the PDK transmission has a good reliability record, if it suffers an internal failure [clutches or gearbox] you’re in for a very hefty bill as it’s not repairable, the whole unit requiring replacement. Also you need to factor-in the cost of the 12k service; even costlier with the PDK. I think the Milltek exhaust should be fine, but you’d need to confirm suitability with a decent test drive to include all driving conditions: WOT in different gears as well as constant speeds.

If there are a lot of Rs around I think maybe that the market has peaked, and dealers are looking to offload them having paid premium prices?

Personally I wouldn’t discount looking for a well-spec’d manual Cayman S where you’ll find much more choice.

Good luck with your search.

Jeff
