Cayman Rattle

Hi guys

I have a 2009 Cayman that I bought 4 months ago and over the last few weeks I have noticed an annoying rattle that is coming from the back ! I think it could be the rear tailgate !

Like a twit I tried adjusting the little rubber stops on the lid at the bottom, but it has not really made any difference, could it be the seal that needs replacing?

Hi Kingsley,

It’s possible that you’re suffering from “trunk clunk” which isn’t an unknown occurrence on the 987-series cars. There’s a tuned mass damper inside the hatch which is intended to damp out unwanted vibrations which can cause a rattle if it fails. Here’s a link:

Other than that adjusting the stops can help, but as you’ve found it doesn’t always provide a solution to the problem.
