Cayman - Rear Wiper

Hi Cayman drivers - how essential is the rear wiper? Hows reversing in the wet without one? Any essential options in your opinions?

Include it in your spec. Even though the airflow cleans the rear window very efficiently once on the move, reversing in rain is a lottery without it. It's only £230. In retrospect I should have also specified the parking sensors - you only need to misjudge it once and you've paid for it. Judging the rear distance is an imperfect science....

One thing to consider is that the rear wiper motor protrudes into the boot - so less space. The other reason I didn't specify it was that IMO it looks like an afterthought. So far no problem with rain on the rear screen - but I don't normally use the rear view mirror to reverse and have ParkAssist...

I had a rear wiper on my 997S and think I only used it twice in a year. Hence I did not spec it on the Cayman and do not miss it. It costs money (not much), takes up boot space, looks poor and is one more thing to lift when washing the car. Don't buy it.

The boot space taken up is so trivial that it had not occurred to me until I read the posts above and I used the rear wiper today. Big frost down here overnight = frost on rear window. Switch on HRW, one minute later rear window wiper clears it. Then on way in to Office, melting frost from roof = water running down rear window, so, guess what? Used the rear wiper again.
Next house you buy, don't bother with a dishwasher, think of the space you'll save in the kitchen.

Yup, I agree with Alex, if you keep your Cayman outside, the wiper can sometimes be useful, though I still maintain that the disadvatages outweight the advantages. However, my 'pride & joy' is always inside it's cosy warm garage.
