Cayman RS --- Will they do it ?

As the GT3RS becomes bigger, there's a case for a car that could be a "junior" version in all but performance.

A car to be particularly at home at tracks such as Cadwell Park and some of the shorter sprint and hillclimb courses.

A logical successor to the Caterham, Lotus Elise, Renault Clio Trophy clan.

A spiritual successor to the 964RS.

But, how much should it cost, and who would buy it ?

The white Cayman RS/Clubsport in the box next door at Spa looked absolutely fantastic. If Porsche built it, the customers would buy it.

As already mentioned in another post, I have a letter from Porsche registering my interest in the forthcoming Cayman RS. This was in response to me asking for details on the Cayman ClubSport. I'm hoping that this letter is an indication that a Cayman RS is happening, but as always, I'll believe it when I see official details.

Yes I saw your mail --- and registered my own interest which, strangely, they were happy to acknowledge ! I also have had had no joy with CS. I wonder what the spec. will be ?

I have a letter lodged with my OPC from June 2004 ! They've not confirmed or denied in the 5 years ! If the pricing policy of the latest 997 edition is anything to go by the marketting men will be hard at work to justify a £55k+ start price.

As I said on another thread my OPC's new car SM denied that a Clubsport exists on Posche's official future models list and as I did not buy a brand new one he had no reason for cooking his remarks to help my decision one way or the other. BTW, I am very pleased with my Cayman S, a considerably better car (for me) than the Boxster S.

Which brings us back to the original question [;)] Will they ?

[color=#0033cc size=4]Just out of interest. Why is the Cayman so much better than the Boxster. The other half has a 987 Boxster S and that's pretty good. I haven't driven a Cayman but I have owned Carrera 3.0, 964C2, 993 C4S, 996 Mk1 GT3 and a 997 GT3 RS. So would be interested to hear more from someone who's owned both Boxster and Cayman.[/color]

I don't think either is 'better'. Certainly if you like the wind in your hair then the Boxster has it hands-down. Mrs telford_mike loves hers - she always has convertibles anyway. The Cayman feels stiffer, more hard-edged, more focussed. It's also a bit more practical with its hatch, though the Boxster is also pretty good with luggage (for a sports car). Our Cayman arrives in a couple of weeks, but we'll certainly be keeping the Boxster. On a sunny afternoon on a country road there's simply nothing like it.

French Cayman Cup Series .... there must be a M00? Factory Spec Cup Car ... Agree yet again smashing car [:D]

There seem to be plenty of aftermarket tuners that can offer perspex or makrolon lightweight plastic as alternatives to glass and carbon as alternatives to steel or aluminium. There is also no reason why the standard carpet could not be removed and replaced with a lightweight item, then it would be a case of removing electric goodies not required , to further reduce weight. I would argue you could probably make a lightweight cayman cheaper than porsche would sell you one. Unless there is going to be some additional technology in a clubsport or RS version it seems bizarre to pay more money for effectively less car. The boxster speedster seems a better prospect as its not only going to be lighter than the standard car but also look significantly different too.

Breaking news.... [link=http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/Porsche-Boxster/211649/]http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/Porsche-Boxster/211649/[/link]

ORIGINAL: spyderman Dated 2004 - or were you being sarcastic?!
Exactly. It just goes to show what a lot of tosh these magazines come up with. They publish something completely fictional and we start phoning our dealers. They must think it's hilarious.

http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=451160 There has been a lot of tosh written by these magazines about the next "Speedster" spec wise, but the one bit of tosh the rags have right is the fact there is a Boxster Speedster coming real soon and my money says it will be expensive, limited edition and a bit faster than any Boxster seen to date. So chances look good for something CS/RS wise on the runout Kmen [8D]

[link=http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Secret-new-cars/Search-Results/Spyshots/Porsche-Boxster-R-2009-scooped/]http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Secret-new-cars/Search-Results/Spyshots/Porsche-Boxster-R-2009-scooped/[/link] 22 September 2009 15:31 We've caught more photos of the new Porsche Boxster 'Speedster' testing in Germany. It's the new 2010 version of the Boxster with a speedster style chopped top and power domes. These new aerial photographs afford a peek inside the new Porsche Speedster; you can make out the ramped power domes behind the front seats nestling under the disguise. We also hear the speedster, which will be launched in 2010, will have a lowered windscreen for more al fresco entertainment. In a U-turn from our last story, we now think this is the Speedster, not the new Porsche Boxster 'R', which is a separate, harder version of the sports car that will be revealed by the end of 2009, probably at the LA show. We don't yet know the definitive name of the new harder Porsche, although insiders have referred to the go-faster version as the Boxster R. And how does this new Porsche Boxster R differ from any other Porsche Boxster? Externally this special edition differs from its banal brothers thanks to a lower front bumper (with single rather than double strakes across the intakes – all important to the people that might buy this car), plus new side intakes and a bigger rear spoiler. And beneath that disguised rear deck is thought to be a double-bubble Speedster-style hump. Under the skin this new Porsche is expected to use the 3.4-litre flat-six currently found in the Boxster S, but with a few tweaks to lift power closer to 320bhp. This Boxster also sits lower on sports suspension, features new alloys wheels and comes with Porsche’s PCCB ceramic brakes as standard. There will also be interior tweaks akin to the cabin of the fettled [link=http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/shared/PageTemplates/Article/Article.aspx?id=14978]911 Sport Classic[/link] unveiled earlier this year. There's no word on the price, but the 250 Sport Classic 911s each cost over £140k, so this Boxster could end up being pretty costly. Expect to see it unveiled at the 2009 LA auto show in early December, one year on from the revealing of the [link=http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/shared/PageTemplates/Article/Article.aspx?id=7223]facelifted Boxster and Cayman[/link]. >> Click 'Add your comment' and let us know what you

So what is a Powerdome ?? I've a letter of intent in on a Caymen RS, but if it's a marketing excercise. I'll let it drop. If Porsche want to ask me the spec, I'll let them know what I would expect. But there is a World of difference between a CS and an RS which should be 1mm away from a a Cup car .. And Porsche need to prove their new Direct injection engine so that they can move away from the very expensive GT1 based unit ... Caymen RS could do this, so long as it doesn't break [;)]

They've got enough confidence in it to put it in the new 997.2 Turbo.

True, and I am hoping [;)] I would take a chance on this one, but make no apology for the fact that it would spend a lot of time on track --- though it would NEVER be buzzed and it would receive lots of TLC between track days [;)]

They've just disowned the CS variant and introduced the Boxter Speedster. So Caymen RS ? Or Parr Turbo ???
