Cayman S Modifications

What's the story with modifying the Cayman S chaps?

I swore I wouldn't go too deep after spending over £16,000 on my Evo 9 but am interested as to what the consensus is.

I would be reluctant to change anything exhaust or intake wise without having the car remapped due to the obvious risk of running lean.

What are the options with mapping? Can the standard ECU be re-flashed or would you have to go for a standalone engine management system?

What are the best intake / exhaust options for the Cayman S? Would simply fitting a K&N replacement filter be just as effective as a full blown induction kit? Exhaust-wise I'm assuming Milltek make the best fitting, performing and sounding systems?

...Or maybe I'll just leave it bog standard [;)]

I have a 987S and have recently fitted a sports exhaust. I went for the Tubi system which is more expensive than the Milltek but in my view sounds much better. The sound is controlled by the throttle and so is not intrusive even at motorway speeds. I would highly recommend it.
 
i have looked into this in some detail-basically there is not much you can do to get more power from the cayman s by remapping/chipping(unlike the 997 series) so any worthwhile gains will cost an awful lot-peob near £10k or more.as for exhausts for goodness sake listen to them before choosing-i have friends with millitek and tubi-some say tubi sound great while others say they are not that well made and sound unbearably loud for everyday living,and you can pick up cheap nearly new tubi`s from people who cant cope with the noise!!millitek also has its fans and detractors so as always-go and see/hear for yourself first(imo)
 
do nothing miss out on what agreat car it can be listen to people on here missout on what a great car it can be tee hee my Cayman has 340Bhp and not a miltek or tubi in site. Tubi exhausts show no power gains btw,

spend any extra you have on instruction would be my advice-no offence-i found it well worth it.my lap times plummeted after 2 hrs driver tuition.i bet dickie attwood would go round quicker in a 2.7 cayman than i could in a 3.4 with 340or even 400 bhp[:D] i use only a fraction of the 300 horse most of the time and for the rest-300hp is plenty if used correctly.the car is fabulous as it is so just enjoy[:)]
 
Wise words Dyllan.....But Conor after that.... There are quite a few options open to you...for expample Autofarm have released a 3.7 Cayman with upgrades from the standard car starting at £1650 for filter exhaust & remapping with a 20 bhp return.
 
I would love to spend some dough (that I don't have!) and to sharpen up the motor but having had one engine failure, I don't dare do anything that will invalidate the PGB warranty - i.e. take it to Autofarm or similar. I find the car sufficiently fast to frighten myself.....
 
Agree, the softronic plunum/ecu remap and remus exhaust is probably about the best value for money mod for these cars. 340 bhp and a tuned engine note makes for some big smiles.
