Cayman s - will not go in reverse or 1st gear

Hi guys a few days ago coming back from work In my 2006 cs 50,000miles on the clock and was finding it difficult to go into 1st gear and when once finally in when shifting to 2nd the return on the clutch was not following my foot it was delayed which I found odd but as I got threw the gears it gradually improved however once starting of again from a set of lights the same problem but worse even more stiffer on the gear change and slow return on the clutch, even reverse had locked me out all together no matter how much I tried to put it in it just wasn't having it.

I first thought it was probably more to do with the gear box than the clutch, but hey am no mechanic!
Sent it to Porsche they've said it's the clutch which I was suprised as I was thinking more a gear box problem but they say its fine,
once they stripped it down
They've also told me the fly wheel needs doing, got it from Nottingham 6 months ago and and done 6,000 miles in that time should a clutch on a cayman be on its way out at 50,000. Obviously depends how you drive it but I've never burnt 1 out in any of my previously cars over the years!

Any one else had this problem or similar

I had hydraulic problems on the clutch in other Porsches which had much the same symptoms but a seizing spline or scorched disc and flywheel could have the same effect rather unusual unless the clutch has had a hard life and not everyone is sympathetic to the clutch which would be liable to cause such things. Get it done and be more sympathetic to it, by the way this should be in the main area of the Cayman forum and so I'll move it. If you are a member then come along to Region 8 meeting at the Cooper's arms on the first Monday night each month if not join, you get 10% discount on parts at the OPC amongst other benefits

I thought i was signed in didnt mean to post it as a guest! Yea i will have a run over! Hopefully get the car bk this week in time Many people turn out?

If they're replacing the DMF as well as the clutch James, it sounds as though the clutch has had some fairly serious use in 50k miles. Being realistic though, I would have thought that 60-80k miles is about all you could expect. The DMF is expensive, so prepare yourself for a hefty bill..! If the car's still under warranty, you might want to question if you should pay the full price for the flywheel. However, this might be difficult to argue if the DMF's been damaged by a severely-worn clutch disc rather than there being a failure of the DMF itself. Jeff

Yea i have spoke to them about it they have found a small oil leak Which they have told me will be sorted under warranty which means Because they have to strip it to get to the oil leak theyv said the labour Will covered by warranty and all i have to pay is parts which they have Done me the clutch and flywheel at £1091 inv VAT they gave me 15% Off parts which i didnt think was bad Considering i rang another branch up and Asked for a quote on clutch flyweel and fitting 2095 inc VAT so good old warranty and good Job they found that oil leak i saved 1k! So been runing a jag xf round for hire car for past few days There an impressive bit of kit for a diesel well suprised with how good it is! Hopefully get it Back at the weekend ready for monday meet

Hi "Guest" We have problems with the registrations at the moment, but if you send me your log in, email address, and/or surname to 944@porscheclubgb.com I'll try to activate your account for you. [:)]

Hi James, Region 8 does get a good turn out and more people in the region seem to be joining with Caymans too so all very encouraging, you'll have noticed that I have now moved this to the main forum as I had a problem with moderating the Tech Articles section which is now fixed (Thanks Paul ). I take it that you know where we meet at the Coopers Arms, Weston on Trent some of us get there to eat in the carvery before the meeting.

Hi James, did your car get repaired? I was at the Nottingham OPC on Thursday and saw a black 57 plate in the car park so I wondered if it was yours. The yard at the back and the parking area was pretty full so I guess that they are busy there.

Hi Kevan yea its been repaired i collected it on friday evening when i got there it was parked as you drive in on the left side its black and would of had a private plate on J90AMA! Yea when i went in i spoke with debbie in servicing to sort mine out and she said they was pulled out with it at the moment. How come you was down there? not got problems with yours have you or just a general neb at the show room?

I happened to be in Nottingham ( a rare thing indeed )! And I remembered that my son wanted some Porsche screenwash even though he no longer has a Porsche but drives a VX220 Turbo he prefers to use it and so I called in, it makes mine last longer! I actually bought my last two Porsches from the Sheffield dealership and generally use them for my servicing etc.
