What do we think about a 06 3.4 cayman S as a everyday car /trackcar any pointers ie does it has to have chrono ? cheers for any pointers what tyres best mileage is engine up to the job

My Cayman S is a late 06 according to chassis listing 07 model year. I use it as a daily driver and have often commuted either 6 miles each way or more often 65 miles each way can be a bit thirsty in traffic but if you have the opportunity to cruise it can return some highly impressive fuel economy figures. For comfort it can't, for me, be bettered and always makes me feel better on a bad day. Handling is superb, while I have not so far tracked it I'm thinking I may well be doing some before much longer. I have plenty of the options available including the chrono, sports seats, 19" wheels and auto dimming mirrors ( terrific in commuting traffic ). With two boots is ideal for travelling long distance on holidays.

Perfect for both, my wife ran our S as her only car for two years no problems, very practical, luckily she let me "borrow" it at weekends.

My 06 Cayman S is my daily driver. I must admit that I don't look at the mpg when commuting in traffic. However, on a motorway run I get just over 30mpg on a long run and when on an occassion where I was running out of fuel on a motorway, I found the trip computer's range calculator very accurate and got up to 34mpg (with some very careful driving!) to get me home. I've taken it on track twice, the first time in the pouring rain at Oulton Park and the second time at Brands Hatch (both Porsche Club events). Being a mid-engined car it is a brilliant track car and was very composed while cornering and also performed very well under heavy braking in the rain on fairly used Michelin Pilot Sport N4's. Given that the 987 platform is well understood to be able handle more power than Porsche bestows on it, I expect it will remained composed at speeds beyond which I dare.[:)]

Sport chrono is nice to have but is by no means essential. If it's fitted enjoy it but anticipate increased fuel consumption as a result. Don't forget that you are looking at what cost around £50k when new and the price of spares reflect that. I run an 06 Cayman S as my only car and I love it.
