Cayman Tyre Wear

Early days, but given that my Cayman is shod with Sport Conti's and that my 997 was shod with the same, it will be interesting to discover if tyre wear is as bad on track as 997, especially as both have PASM (see 997 Forum). Has anyone done a high mileage yet?

Hi Derek,

How are you enjoying your Cayman? I have only done 500 miles so far so cannot comment on the tyre wear. But I have a much larger smile drinving the Cayman than the 997. It is more responsive and feels part of the driver and the sound.....

At 3000 miles and one trackday in my 997S, the tire edges were looking decidedly worn. So your news is indeed good news. However, has your Cayman got PASM?

At last year's August Goodwood trackday, a number of us were astonished at the appearance of the nearside front tyre (Michelins) on a 997 after half a day's driving. The tread edge was heavily distorted, far more than normal feathering, and the texture of the rubber looked like thick black porridge. Looked like rampant understeer even though the owner denied chucking it about. The three other tyres looked reasonable.

PASM fitted to my car.

Well, of course the outer edge was looking more worn at the end of the day than the start [:)] but it seemed to be holding up OK. As usual picked up a lot of rubber which took a while to clear off and the PS2 does seem softer than Pzeros which I've run before.

Only slight worrying thing was that maybe a high curb had slashed the tread in one place - but not too deep...
