Caymans in anger - Porsche Sprint Challenge GB

The Porsche Sprint Challenge GB is a new, for 2020, racing series for the Cayman 718 GT4. It does not get much coverage on the Club website, but Cayman register members might be interested in what's going on.

The first 4 rounds can be picked up on YouTube and there has been some great racing, even if the Donington one looked as if it was taking place in the middle of winter!

  • Rounds 1&2 Snetterton 300 Porsche Club GB 11 – 12 July
  • Rounds 3&4 Donington Park (GP) British GT 15 – 16 August
The next 8 rounds are scheduled as follows.
  • Rounds 5&6 Brands Hatch (Indy) Porsche Club GB 6 September
  • Rounds 7&8 Donington Park (GP) British GT 19 – 20 September
  • Rounds 9&10 Croft TOCA 10 – 11 October
  • Rounds 11&12 Silverstone (Grand Prix) British GT 7 – 8 November
Rounds 5&6 take place at what was the 'Brands Hatch Festival' and is now the ‘Brands Hatch Porsche Club Raceday’, run by MSV. The club will not be present as there is no opportunity to meet and greet under the present restrictions. The racing should be good though.

It would be great to meet up with fellow Cayman members and we will try to arrange a register meet at these events. The practical application of the government's rules and guidelines is down to the promoter. MSV basically say that you can go to watch racing, but not much else. For me it is too long a round trip without the socialising and access to pit lane and garages etc. I will keep watch to see if anything more flexible becomes possible at the later rounds.

Why not post an interest on here if you are considering going. I suggest to let us know where you would be travelling from and whether it would be a day trip or overnight.

Silverstone, although not my favourite circuit, would OK - but a rather dismal place to be in bleak and windy November, so probably not!

Donington's a possibility.

Jeff

We had tickets for Donington last weekend but after seeing the forecast we bailed out - I'm so glad we did!

I already have tickets for the next Donington round including Starkey's parking. Hopefully the weather will be OK this time [:D]

We will certainly try to get together at Croft. One of our members is commentating at that round.

I could be convinced by Donington and Silverstone too, but how good it will be depends on COVID restrictions and the weather.
