Hi there just wondering if anyone knows of any good repair/refurbishment companys prefer UK or European
for the Climate Control Unit for the 964 mine is none AC and some functions are not working.
Costs of repair would also be great , I would like info on any places to steer clear of

Thanks in advance Pete

From experience, options:
1. buy from Porsche, but ask for exchange basis. Little publicised buit a lot cheaper, was £700 instead of £1000+. BUT that was 4 years ago, so not sure of prices or even availability.
2. various refurb advertised, but not heard of one that works or economical, so best avoided.
3. Buy second hand from classifieds, try porsche forums and ebay. Hit & miss, as often sold as faulty, but you might get lucky.
4. Check its the CCU. There are lots of components in the 964 system and can be very complex and expensive to find and fix faults.
5. If its basically working, put up, as see option 4.

Good luck, and get yourself over to www.rennlist.com as there is a lot more (worldwide) experience there on the 964.

You coulkd always try a breaker. I have found that Douglas Valley have been good in the past. Let me know if you need an email address :)

I understand that the diodes tend to be the culprit.
Can any substantiate that claim and if so have a circuit
diagram for those who'll dare to repair first before forking out loads-a-money.

Its one 16p transistor that goes a lot of the time ...been there got the tee shirt and have used this fix with great success.

Transistor ( when i brought a load) were available from Maplin or RS direct etc

PS : you do have to split the boards apart in the CCU to get at the 16p transistor

See this link as to what to do and there are NO circuit diagrams anywhere on the web that I've been able to get hold off .

Amazing thread Ian.

I am impressed that you found the time/skill/money/confidence to do all that.

Would a 'professional' rebuild have been as thorough?

You can see why it costs £6K or £7K now.

Thanks Ian for the reply about the transitor fault, it's filed away for when needed.

What a great posting of your engine rebuild, engrossing.
