CD- Changer

I've recently become an owner of a 2001 Porsche Boxster S. The car came with loads of optional extras apart from a CD player. The stereo is a Becker CR-22 (Radio/cassette), but does have the connectors for the front hood mounted changer. Does anyone know where I can get hold of a changer to suit and the relevant prices............

Cheers

Just had a phone call from design 911 informing me that they don't actually have the cd-changer in stock and can't give me any indication as to when they might have any stock.

Any other suppliers/ideas ?????

Yes it does, I have a 7860 in my Boxster. It is identical to the model Porsche sell minus the badges. Mine came from Car Audio Discount, hassle free.

Have you not had any memory problems where the multichanger just forgets what track/cd it was playing last and goes back to the cd 1 track 1 ?

Just bought the 7860 with the cdr22 and mine keeps doing this

hello

just to through a spanner in the works, i recently replaced my head unit for a unit whic will play MP3 tracks- result you can hold 16 albums on one disk, there fore no more bulky cd changers, the tracks can me tagged, and moved around and the sound quality is fantastic, and if you play around with the compression setting i have had up to 26 albums on a disk [:)]

Having bought a Silverstone 7860 and fitting it at the weekend, I am also experiencing problems with the memory. I now wish I had just spent the extra money and invested in a Porsche original CDC - 03 !!!!

Hi everyone...first post so be gentle!

For a change, it's nice to be able to offer advice rather than ask for it...for those contemplating the purchase of the Silverstone 7860 - beware!
I bought one in June, by the end of the month it was u/s, it took caraudiodiscount.com until the the end of August to decide to return it for repair to Germany. To date I have been unable to "persuade" them to chase up the progress of the repair - poor.

It also seems that around 10% of the 7860 CD changers will experience "software compatability" issues when used with the CDR-22 head unit (sounds as though some already are) This snippet of info came from Beckers UK distributor. Their advice, reading between the lines, is to avoid the the 7860 if using it with the Porsche head unit.
A good alternative is the Becker 2660 6 disc changer ,which I think is the same as the CDC-3 Porsche equivalent. These are not readily available but can be bought s/h....I bought an "as new" one from ebay for £150, the build quality is far more substantial the newer 7860, and it just "plugs in" as normal.

Caveat emptor!

Well a surprisingly valuable first post. Welcome to the forum, and I think I'll go and have a scan through ebay to see if there are any more on offer.
