I have a PCM2 with 6-CD Changer fited as standard in my MY03 Coupe. Yesterday on switching on the system the screen informed me that the CD multi-changer was not available, also stated in the bottom line screen text when pressing the CD button. Have checked the changer and that the discs are in the right way around. There is power to the changer and when the cartridge is inserted it cycles through all six CDs as normal. Have also checked fuse D9 but all well there. Have not interfered with sytem or disturbed any cabling at all and until yesterday the system worked perfectly. Any ideas out there please. [&:]

CD Multi-Changer Problem

Try doing a system reset. Press the 1, 4 & 8 buttons at the same time.
Thanks Richard, will give it a try and report back. From the Porsche PCM book it says the changer door(s) must always be closed. Mine does close although not that positively. Does the changer door(s) have a microswitch or similar on them which detect the doors are fully closed?

I have a 2004 C4S & on occassion experience the same probs as you have explained.
I have put it down to 'moisture' on the discs as the prob only seems to occur from cold when exiting the garage then disappears.....
Unless you're using the sat nav, suggest a few back up cd's in the car!

Have tried the 1-4-8 re-set twice this morning with no effect. PCM2 ON - pressed 1-4-8 buttons together - system goes off, comes on again then goes off again. Turn system back on and same message appears on screen - 'System Error: CD Multi-changer not available'. Have tried re-inserting cartridge several times to no effect. Car kept in garage and damp/condensation not usually a problem - even in winter. I suppose it is possible that a connector has come loose from the rear of the PCM unit, although as the changer has power, which I assume it gets from the PCM Unit as part of its connections, this does not seem that likely. However how easy is it to removed the PCM unit to check. I have tried taking of the surrounding trim to reveal 4 small screws in the supporting plastic frame. Removing these did not allow that area of plastic to come out and the PCM seemed as fixed solid as ever. Are special tools needed etc - is/are there any tech' diagrams that would help?
It will also give you that message if there is a break in the fibre-optic loop. Check the orange cables are secure on the CD changer.
If you have to get it out - unclip the horseshoe and look at the sides of the PCM unit. You will see a hexagon fastner at the top and bottom on each side. These are 1/4 turn fastners, and turned with an allen key or ball driver:
