my alpine cd player has packed up.has anybody used halford for fitting new ones?.they are offering free fitting.where is the arial the reception is not very good.can anyone recommend a good cd player.many thanks

the ariel should be in the screen up the middle and over the top, very thin wire.
The connector for it is behind the clock if i remember correctly
For info.......There have been a few instances where screens have been fitted without the ariel

I am sure that the arial needs a 12v supply voltage to it. It goes to some sort of amplifier box this is probably why the reception is not good. I have read about it somewhere but i am sure someone else will be able to help further. I would trust halfords to do the job but all they will do is wire for wire with the old unit or they may not even fit it as the 964 does not have the normal ISO conectors as in more recent cars 1995 onwards. You can easy wire the radio yourself wire for wire.On Alpine radios the wire colours are labeled on the unit itself so you can just adapt these to the new radio. I would speak to one of the specialist companys j z machtech etc for advise. As the radio will have to be removed again to wire up the arial if it is not done on the install corectly.

Hope this helps

Tim

I fitted my 9812rr in about 20 mins with the correct adapter harness, the 12v supply for the antenna is just another output from the back of the head unit, all details in the Alpine manual. Mine was bought for £245. see if Halfrauds can beat that.........

Amp under the seat, drivers side IIRC.....radio booster is under the dash, needs a 12v supply normally fed from the back of the radio unit, well it does on my Alpine anyway...

No idea what it looks like, but is apparently under the dash upper left near windscren

Just for information Halford will price match. The last head unit I bought from them was a good £40 more expensive than the price in a magazine (against a £160 head unit). Halfords price matched without hesitation. It's always better to buy from a shop than mail order or internet I think - there is no faffing around with having to pick it up from a depot 50 miles away because they don't deliver at weekends or evenings.

what does the amp for the ariel look like, and where is it situated.

As Kevin said, it's up under the dash - but where it is isn't important. It IS, however, important to make sure that the wire twisted around the aerial signal cable (which is the power supply TO the amplifier) is connected to the electric aerial supply from the radio head unit. If it is not connected the signal strength will be abysmal. Many have reported poor reception being totally transformed once that wire is connected.

You should also make sure that the GREEN wire is NOT connected but fully insulated. This is the alarm activation wire and, if earthed, will cause a battery drain of some significance.

Regards

Dave

Try a Panasonic.----------- they come with the 8 pin din skt on the back
If you have the pre- amp under your seat all you have to do is connect the 8 pin din and the power , ariel.--job done.
Try a company called MCS.
The Panosonic I have cost about £100 and it plays wma-and mp3 files.
