CD/Radio installation

Having finally got my CD/radio unit, CDR-32, into working order, I now have the (possibly) final hurdle of getting the damned thing back into its slot. There's a lot of very chunky wiring behind the unit, and I can't push it right home, presumably because the wiring is getting fouled up somewhere. Before I start dismantling the dash, does anyone have any advice as to the knack of re-inserting the unit?

If the radio is in the standard place with the air con unit above then removing the air con unit gives some better access and let's you guide the cables to where you want them.
Air con unit is easy to remove, pull off front bezel then 4 screws n out she comes, if I recall correctly.
