CDR 22 LED Display problems

Arran

I have only recently acquired a 2001 S and am delighted with the car but as you can imagine I am working my way through the minor irritating faults. The sound system is great but the LED display on the CDR 22 is breaking up. Does anyone know if this can be repaired, or replaced. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you are referring to the LCD display that shows the temperature etc. then I have had two failures in five years of ownership from new. The first one failed by having like a water mark move across it which slowly obliterated the characters. This was replaced in July 2004 at a cost of £350ish with free fitting. Fitting took less than 30 minutes. About a month ago some segments of the temperature digits went out. It was replaced on 27 January at Porsche Centre Cambridge FOC. Both of these faults affaected only the lhs of the display. The replacement is the whole panel.
Incidentally, I have been using Porsche Centre Cambridge for over four years and they have always been excellent.

Lawrence - thank you for the reply and the info on how you managed to sort out your particular problem but it is the LED display on the radio I'm trying to solve. I suspect I may have to live with this or get a factory replacement - I just wondered how others might have dealt with this problem. Thanks again!

Have a look at the recent thread on Renntech re five dial consoles being inserted into the Boxster -- there is a post there about cleaning the contacts inside the LED unit that might work for you if you are prepared to take it to bits (I've had one in bits out of curiosity, it isn't that hard). Alternatively, have a look on Ebay, front panel replacements come up every now and then. They are available through dealers but will be costly...

Much obliged Paul - I'll check it out.

If you don't mind me asking where do you get your repairs/ servicing done in the Glasgow area?

Nigel
