I have a 993 that I am trying to get back to original spec. It has a none standard audio unit fitted and I am looking to fit a cdr-22 or a cr-22. Does anyone know if these fit in ok and if this was the units fitted as standard.

Dave,

according to the Veloce 993 Essential Companion:-

Blaupunkt London RDM 42
Blaupunkt Paris RCR 42
Blaupunkt Bremen RCM 43
Blaupunkt Muechen RD104
Blaupunkt Dusseldorf RCR84
Porsche CR - 10
Porsche CR -11
Porsche CR - 31
Porsche CDR - 210

I don't think this is a complete list as some 993s have CDR - 21. The CDR - 21 is UK Becker unit, CDR - 210 is US Becker unit. I had a CDR - 210, I'd avoid them as it had problems playing copied cdrs and had no Ipod connection.

I think your CDR - 22 is from a Boxster and you can get the add on for the Ipod - check the priceif you need to buy an add on though.

If you buy a second hand one it will be 20-16 years old, the units do wear out and will not perform as well as a later aftermarket unit.

If you want a plain face unit there are companies which make very plain faces.

The best gains are from replacing the speakers and amp, which were made by Nokia.

Thanks for the info. I am not worried about the sound or I pod connection, just that it is original standard fit. So your info will be helpful thanks. Everything else on the car is original and this is the last thing I need to sort.

I have been looking online but the seem hard to find in good condition now. There must still be a few out there tucked at the back of people's garages or loft.

I'm convinced that the 22's were not fitted to 993s. The 21's (21, 31 etc) would be the more accurate model.

The Porsche PET lists them
