hi all..

i have a cdr22 unit in the car,, but the display has always been really dull,,,, when car was in for last service, it was checked by audi specialist who said bulbs were ok,, and suggested that it may have gotten wet at some point, because if you touch the display it brightens up where your finger is ?

well... long story here,, bought another little front piece on e.bay that is supposed to be ok,, but it does the exact same thing ?

anyone any ideas,,,,,,

thanks
scott...

Going bright when you touch it implies that the display is a TFT type, or similar, like flat computer screens. This also implies that the drivers that power the display are not up to scratch, which would account for both front ends being iffy.

Mind you, I could be wrong, but from your description, and baring in mind that I don't know this unit.

Scott,

The CDR22 uses a directional display - by that I mean the display constrast is optimised for a particular viewing angle. As the CDR22 was fitted to the Boxster & 996, the display is setup for their mounting position and due to the units location in a 993 (on the other side of the car!) the display contrast will be compromised. Unfortunatly the CDR22 contrast is not adjustable.

This type of display (with a soft clear plastic front) will always distort when pressed - just don't press to hard or you will permanently damage the display.

Bottom line is that the CDR22 just is'nt a good choice for the 993 - its predecessor the CDR21 is far better suited to our quirky air-cooled dash.
