CDR23

Hi,

Just for information really....

I've been looking into integrating an iPOD and a bluetooth hands free kit into my '03 Carrera 2. I don't want an aftermarket head unit, they look too out of place.

Initially I trolled through the many articles that detail how the optical MOST system pretty much stops any proper iPOD connection (until Denison launch the Gateway 500 unit).

Phone handsfree interfacing is a little easier as the Becker unit has a phono mono audio and phone mute connections.

Anyway, I've just pulled out the CDR23 to check the connections before ordering any parts and my car is not using the optical MOST connection, just standard ISO speaker. (My car has the basic audio system, not BOSE or PSS).

So my conclusion is to replace the headunit with a Becker Grand Prix 7990 which has bluetooth built-in and a proper iPOD connection option. This is an easy option to revert back to stock, come the time when I sell the car.

Any opinions would be appriciated... are there any options to upgrade the standard speakers ?

Cheers

Paul

You'll also need to replace the factory amplifier as this is connected to the CDR23 head unit by fibre optics.

Any speakers are going to be better than factory - the std units are paper coned !!

MBQuart do a 4.5" 2 way that fits into the dashtop mpounting quite easily and a 5.25" for the doors (6.5" will fit with a bit of modifying)

There is no fibre connection on my head unit, just ISO speaker connections. There are optical connections on the back of the CDR23, but they are not being used in my vehicle... I guess because I don't have the Bose or Porsche Sound System upgrades.

Do you know a supplier for the MBQuart speakers ?
