CDR24 MIS-BEHAVING

The CDR24 unit on my '05 987 is behaving very strangely.
Display sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Same for the dash readout. Sometimes these 2 are different!
Pre-sets don't work and the only way to change station is to use the scan function. Which, again, works sometimes.
Occasionally it does not even switch on.
I suspect it is terminal and will not last much longer.
Can't be worn out as the car only has 22K miles and I do like to listen to the engine.
OPC have quoted £760 to replace!
I have 'Sound Package Plus' which is fairly average in performance.

Has anyone replace the CDR24 unit with an aftermarket unit which does not spoil the look of the centre console?
If so, which one.
And is there a good car audio installer in Lancashire.

Thanks,
Peter

this may seem blindingly obvious so forgive if already done

mine was doing the above and i removed the fuse and plugged back in and hey presto [:D]

Doh! [8|]
I think I was avoiding the blindingly obvious in the hope of getting a new one with DAB, Bluetooth, SATNAV, etc.
Works perfectly now.
Thanks Dylan.
