Center console USB - Does it stay "live" after the car is locked - 991.2

Hi,

Does anyone know if the center console USB port stays live after the car is locked. I've tested with a USB light and it seems to stay on for at least a minute or so, but not sure if it remains on indefinitely.

The reason for the question is that I am planning on buying a CarLinkit wireless adapter to turn my wired CarPlay to wireless, so I want to leave it plugged in, and not drain the car battery.

Thanks in advance.

Why not leave the USB light in longer?

There are some reports of switching off after 20 minutes and other reports saying it is different if device is connected with v without ignition switched on.

I've tried this a few times, mine seems to turn off after 4 mins.

I should have tried this in the first place, I assumed it would take much longer, if at all.

I just leave my iPhone plugged into the usb when driving and car play is fine .wouldn’t bother to leave it on as it’s not a faff really

I have a carlink wireless CarPlay and it works great. I leave it plugged in all the time and it doesn't drain the car battery as the usb turns off when you lock the car and the system goes to sleep. I have also added a wireless charging mat to inside the armrest!

Thanks Stefant! I've now had mine over the weekend, and it seems to work perfectly, it's obviously slightly slower to connect than wired, but it is a very neat solution, I was constantly forgetting that my phone was plugged into the center console USB, and only remember once I've locked up the car in the garage!

Stefant, Which charging mat did you get, and how are you powering it given there is only 1 USB in the center console?

Charles.
